GA - Fall Line Freeway (GA 243 / GA 540)
« Reply #75 on: May 06, 2018, 11:41:39 am »
Hi,

Taking a load through GA down to Tallahassee, I followed the named route above.  The signage showed it as GA 243 from GA 24 to GA 57, but I believe 243 has been routed up to Milledgeville as we have it on TM.  Google shows it as GA 540.  TM has no routing between GA 24 and GA 243.

What is the time frame on the official routing for this area?

Regards,
-Ed S

As I understand it, 243 up toward Milledgeville is the old routing and has been removed from the state highway system. OSM was updated at some point to reflect this.

I don't know at this point if GDOT is even actually planning on ever signing it as GA 540; that's what's been used as the internal planning number.

Both of GA 28's segments are actually signed as east-west highways, not north-south ones, as in the highway browser. I'm not sure if that is a problem on this site.
Completely clinched:  I-24, I-35W (MN), I-97, I-124, I-126, I-155 (MO-TN), I-190 (SD), I-195 (MD), I-240 (NC), I-295 (FL), I-375 (MI), I-516, I-520, I-526, I-564, I-585, I-640, I-675 (GA), I-895A, US 178, US 276

I can't speak for the southern portion but the Pine Mountain section was north/south when I passed through last year.

Hi all,

Back again, with some more travels through the Peach State.  Is there a truck route on GA 61 and GA113 through Cartersville?  Trying to get up to I-75, I came across this sign northbound near the intersection of West Ave (GA61/113) and Old Mill Rd:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.148019,-84.8304385,3a,75y,55.71h,83.47t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sO6oKuNjfK15UCUiJE4HO0Q!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

I followed Truck Route signs from there, continuing on Old Mill Rd to S Erwin St, which transitioned into S Bridge Dr.  Approaching the intersection with US41/GA3, I saw this sign denoting directions to I75 N and S:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.1579188,-84.7884308,3a,25.2y,82.24h,91.3t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1slMv45XzLwgOCRCqcnO94aQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Taking US41/GA3 north to Main St (GA113) would complete its truck route, whereas a turn westward on Main St to reach Tennessee St would complete the truck route for GA61.

Not sure if GA uses official truck routes on their state routes, but I wanted to bring it up.  If, for nothing else, than to add a waypoint at Old Mill Rd.

Regards,
-Ed S

Georgia does use Truck plates above their state highway shields.  I'm not sure about how this particular case would be handled, though.

This system has been in preview for over 19 months.  Is it awaiting further review before activation?

Is it a matter? Should it be changed?

Also on the way northward last month, I drove the new port connector at Garden City/Port Wentworth, GA, which is an extension of Jimmy DeLoach Parkway. It is signed as Georgia 21 Alternate, with the route using Sonny Dixon Interchange (an access road linking GA 21 with the parkway) and along the connector freeway southeast to GA 307.

Merged into this thread because it's a preview system.

Per some discussions elsewhere, I've offered to pick up the system. I'm looking over the issues and working my way through things (trying to learn some of it, too.  ;) ).

Broken concurrency:
GA23@GA144_W mismatches GA57@GA144_W&GA144@GA23/57.
Recommend changing GA23@GA144_W to http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=31.939848&lon=-81.937907
This is the only broken multiplex I've spotted, and there's a LOT of multiplexing in GA!

Labels:
GA7BusVal (concurrent with I-75BLVal & US41BusVal) has points labeled OldGA125 and OldUS221_N. These should be named after the current road names instead. I'm gonna close the browser window now before I disappear down a rabbit hole; it's possible there could be more of these around the state.

Speaking of concurrencies, Georgia actually ties the current record for most highways in a single concurrency (counting an unsigned highway).  In Athens, US 29, US 78, US 129, US 441, GA 8, GA 10 Loop, GA 15, and the unsigned GA 422 travel in part of the city together.

Every Interstate highway in the state has an unsigned state route companion.  Every U.S. Highway has at least one signed state route companion.  There are so many concurrencies all across the state.  In fact, there are lots of five-, six-, and seven-highway concurrencies mixed in.

Georgia (U.S.): GA 540 (Fall Line Freeway) signed
« Reply #88 on: December 10, 2018, 12:08:35 pm »
I was out of town on Saturday.  On my way back, I took US 1/GA 4 from Tobacco Road in Augusta, Georgia to Barton Chapel Road (also in Augusta).  The entire path was also signed as GA 540!  I just looked online and found a news story that says that in Columbus, Georgia, GA 540 is signed there.  Does anyone have any good information on the actual signing of the highway?  It is relevant because it needs to be added to the highway browser.
