MA: MA 128 Corrections
« on: November 03, 2019, 05:54:14 am »
Even though this does affect I-95, I am leaving this separate from the other thread on the graph connection at the ramp from MA 286 to I-95 SB.

General revisions:
1.  Since the route is signed north-south, it should technically be flipped.  I assume it was put in this way as the exit numbers count up from Gloucester.
2.  The I-95 exit labels should be changed from xx(95) (45(95)) to I-95(xx) (I-95(45)).

Other revisions:
1.  I believe that the 25 and 24 labels for I-95 should be switched.  Exit 25 is clearly signed for I-90/Mass Pike while Exit 24 is clearly signed for MA 30.
2.  I would change OldRocRd to SchHouRd (School House Rd).

Meh. I'll assume via the exit number ordering that this is MassDOT's canonical direction for this route.
"In general, put the waypoints in the order normally used by the country. Exit numbers or roadside distance markers often reveal this order."
Emphasis added. I take the "In general" to imply that there will be the occasional allowable exception.

The I-95 exit labels should be changed from xx(95) (45(95)) to I-95(xx) (I-95(45)).
Not in this case. MA128 is an exit-numbered highway, so the guidelines from the Interchanges on exit-numbered highways table apply.

Oh lovely. Intuitive. I'd have liked to see an A/B treatment here, but Sequential numbering.
This would (slightly) break a bunch of .list files:
yakra@BiggaTomato:~/TravelMapping/UserData/list_files$ grep -i 'MA \+I-95 .*2[45]' *.list
angelsfreeek.list:MA I-95 12 24
baugh17.list:MA I-95 24 37
ibexto.list:MA I-95 24 MA/NH
imgoph.list:MA I-95 24 29
jackgaynor.list:MA I-95 24 33
jpinyan.list:MA I-95 24 49
mikeandkristie.list:MA I-95 24 37
mojavenc.list:MA I-95 RI/MA 24
myselfalso.list:MA I-95 RI/MA 24
okroads.list:MA I-95 24 MA/NH
rebelgtp.list:MA I-95 24 45
yakra@BiggaTomato:~/TravelMapping/UserData/list_files$ grep -i 'MA \+MA128 .*2[45](95)' *.list
imgoph.list:MA MA128 24(95) 29(95)

I have half a mind to leave this broken until MA goes mileage-based. :P

I would change OldRocRd to SchHouRd (School House Rd).
Done.

Ok.  I checked I-70 and I-79 in PA and am fine on this.

While Wikipedia is not the best source on this, every route article I read seems to indicate that the conversion was planned to happen in 2016 but did not.

I could see MA 128 being flipped when the mileage conversion happens anyhow with the milemarkers going south to north.  It is probably best to hold onto this thread until then.

A couplefew years ago; 2016 could be about right. ISTR at the time that they brought out the plans for the public to see, and the people on the Cape pitched a fit about something, anything at all, being changed, and plans were shelved, until... whenever.

Since MA 128 is currently being converted to mileage-based, I guess that this thread could be shelved for good.

Let's do that. MA128's point labels (and order) can be part of the Massachusetts exit number conversion discussion.
