Title: VA: I-564 Point Needed For Intermodal Connector
Post by: Markkos1992 on July 09, 2018, 05:30:22 pm
I am not sure how we missed this, but the Intermodal Connector (http://www.i564intermodal.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/I-564-News-Release-Port-Road-12-20-2017.pdf) (for Port Traffic anyway) was open on December 21, 2017.  I know a point will be needed here eventually.

I will wait until it is opened at VA 337 which is supposed to be this fall.

Meanwhile I will try to be on the lookout for a route designation or whatever name is posted on the BGS (surprisingly no pictures I can find related to the opening)

^ Correct.  It's only open to the NIT facilities currently.  Access to NOB (Naval Station Norfolk) and the indirect route to Hampton Blvd (VA 337) won't open until later this year.

On a side note, it looks like we have an issue already.

Was just looking in StreetView (dated June '18), and noticed that the new exit has the Exit # of '1' (https://goo.gl/maps/hQRYn7GTCfGWqvoY6), which contradicts what we currently have labeled as 1 (VA-406's interchange).  As of StreetView's last pass on I-564, the VA-406 exit currently doesn't have an exit number (https://goo.gl/maps/G3GT1K7j7kekcnxdA).  I'm guessing VA-406 will gain a number in the future based on other exits gaining numbers (mentioned below), just no proof in the field yet (via StreetView).

On another note for I-564, shouldn't it have a point a point for US-460?  US-460 has a point for it already.  It's shown as Exit #3 (https://goo.gl/maps/rWGXeCAeiG37hBPg7) on I-564.

I did the following with I-564:

Moved the VA 337 point to where it actually becomes VA 337, west of the Gate 3A exit
Put a point labeled Gate3A at that exit
Added the intermodal connector as Exit 1
Changed Exit 1 to Exit 2 at VA 406
Added the US 460 point as Exit 3

I did not add an exit 4 for VA 165 because the only place to put it would be at where the ramp leaves I-564 (i.e. the  VA  165 underpass is actually on I-64 past the endpoint of I-564) which is all but on top of the overpass with the Exit 3 point.

Honestly, I think that fixing the connection between the I-64 point on I-564 and the 276 point on I-64 would solve this issue.  The 276C point on I-64 is already synced with VA 165.

EDIT:I forgot to mention that VA 337 needs to be updated for its north end to sync with the new north end of I-564.

In addition to fixing the new VA 337 endpoint, I changed I-564's end with I-64 to Exit 4 and placed it on the I-64 Exit 276C point.  I then moved the Exit 276 point on I-64 to the Granby St overpass nearby which had a point for US 460 but not for I-64.

Is there anything else that needs to be done here or should this be considered solved?

The only thing that may be necessary here could be a point at 90th St on VA 337.  The Intermodal Connector Project Website does not seem to give information on whether this ramp to 90th St (shown on OSM) is truly opened.

Added a point at Seabee Rd where the Connector ramp will connect to VA 337.
