Please test new highway browser
« on: June 14, 2016, 11:54:09 am »
http://tmtest.teresco.org/hb now has an updated version of our highway browser.  Most functionality remains the same, but the new region and system selection dropdown menus are in place when in "highway list mode" and a user dropdown is in place when using "view a route mode".  I know it makes sense to have the user change right away instead of having the separate button to press since it's the only thing that changes in this case, but this was an easier way to go for now.

I also want as much as everyone else the CHM HB functionality where you can click on intersecting or continuing routes.  I put that aside for now, because my next major task I intend to tackle is the graph view of all of this. This next step will help with concurrency visualization, near miss points, and generation of data for my academic project, in addition to giving a more convenient way to find intersecting highways for the HB.

With this change also just going up for testing, I'm going to delay my move of all of this new stuff over to the main tm site until tomorrow.

It works for me.

The dropdown boxes are going to annoy me - if I want Colorado, I can either do a lot of scrolling, or type in 'colo' really quickly. Ideally you'd have it function like an autocomplete, or have it that the drop down box fills in the form that you can manually enter, but it will do for now.

Looks good. You visualized this all very well.

Have you & froggie worked out a plan for transitioning to the new URL yet?

I like it.

However, if you scroll down the heading line will slide down with you.

Thanks,

I think that was done intentionally by its original author, though it might look nicer if it stayed right at the top.  If anyone knows enough CSS to fix that, I'm happy to accept your improvements.

There's already a GitHub issue: https://github.com/TravelMapping/Web/issues/44

Minor: Can the Oregon State Highways on the browser list be renamed to Oregon State Routes?

Sure, I just made the change in the systems.csv entry.  I also thought about changing usany's entry to "New York State Touring Routes" since that seems to be what they're called, but I don't know if that term refers to just the routes numbers with the state system or includes the US routes within the state.  There are probably others that could/should be renamed.
