Title: IN: IN 912
Post by: nwi_irish96 on December 01, 2017, 12:32:08 pm
So back in 2009, the portion of the IN 912 freeway between Michigan Avenue and Calumet Avenue was shut down due to safety concerns.  About a year later, the portion between Riley Road and Calumet Avenue was reopened, but westbound only.  I happened to notice yesterday that IN 912 is signed westbound along Michigan Ave, Dickey Rd and Riley Rd between the two open portions of freeway.

So what currently exists is a route that is continuous westbound but discontinuous eastbound.  What currently shows in travel mapping is two discontinuous segments with the western segment ending at Riley Road, meaning that part of the westbound only section is in the database but not all of the westbound only section.  It seems that for consistency, either the route should be made continuous in the database to reflect the continuous westbound route or the western section should be truncated at Calumet Avenue to reflect only the sections that can be traveled in both directions.

Interesting. Signed as the state road, or signed as a detour? The bridge is currently being reconstructed, so I was planning on waiting until it was finished before reconnecting everything. I can't find anything in the INDOT shapefiles showing 912 routed along anything other than the two freeway segments.

Actually signed, no detour signs

I didn't take photos but there is a sign in Streetview on Dickey just NW of the intersection with Michigan.

OK, I'll check with INDOT and see what they say. Thanks!

The new bridge is open! I drove through this morning. IN 912 is no longer disjointed!

Edited to add: The Riley Rd interchange is now WB entrance only, no exits and no EB entrance, but I don't think any of the waypoints need to be changed.

Wow, cool! Even 2 weeks ago there was no indication anything was happening. The last story I read described the workers walking off the job in the spring due to some labor dispute.

Does US41 have an exit number?

As of now, the old signage is still there and there is no exit number, but they may do some signing work and I'll check back in a few weeks.

The current answer to "Does IN 912 have an exit number at US 41" is no. Given the substantial passage of time since the reopening of the bridge, I think this thread can be closed.
