In case it's not already on your radar, AB 43X is being extended to meet AB 43 west of Grande Prairie, to create a northern bypass of the city. That would let through travelers avoid the painful slog through the city that I endured earlier today. The extension does not look like opening is imminent.

Reports from mid-July said the AB43X extension would be open by the end of August. I've not found any more recent news of the actual opening.
