Italy: last 2 exits of A6 are part of a different motorway
« on: July 26, 2016, 11:43:56 am »
Hi all, I just register to warn you about a little mistake in the database.

Italian A6 ends at the junction called "Bauducchi", where the A55 waypoint is. From there towards Turin, the motorway is called "A55 - Diramazione per Moncalieri". Different number, different company running it. I know Google Maps labels it as A6, but that's wrong: OpenStreetMap has it right.

The terrible signage around Turin hides this bit of the terrible numbering around Turin, and so this bit of motorway is nowhere referred to as (yet another spur of) A55 on the road.

I cannot remember exactly what led me to make this a part of the A6 (which was more effort for me than keeping it a spur of the A55). I know it was a long, hard decision (partially due to the borderline nature of the decision, partially as I put a lot of thought into it, partially as I spend ages trying to  come up with a way to make no change while keeping to CHM rules about routes' signage). A quick look shows me that on top of the A55 number not appearing, A6 km posts seem to count from the northern end of the A55 spur, and the signs heading south actually refer to the A6 (OK, they also refer to the T2, along with myriad other roads, and it is heading to the A6).

Google's number had no effect on it - IIRC, they are copying me (certainly there's other times Google's copied things off CHM/TM where I've been different), and I don't trust their mapping anywhere near enough to override OSM without evidence from other sources (signs, etc).

I see your point, but the km posts do not mean anything - for instance, the A4 is split among different managing company and they all have km posts starting from 0... it is still one motorway, though.

You are right about the terrible signage, but the spur is actually A55 - it is not written anywhere, but neither A6 is. The southbound sign only mean that you can get to A6, not that you are on it.

There are panels indicating this is a motorway:
https://www.google.it/maps/@45.1860344,7.96006,3a,75y,345.28h,88.56t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1susrqm1P1J52olVi0OaT6vw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

It is 4-lane with a narrow shoulder. So yes, it is a spur of A4.

Yes, it's a motorway without number. Spur of A4... Ok.

I've taken the 'To Ax' signs and pretended they were signs numbering the motorway, else I'd have to remove the section from what's clinchable.

If it's obviously wrong, I think the segment should be removed from itaa system. Maybe it could be added as eursf and still be clinchable?

Edit: Spinoza wrote that it's called "A55 - Diramazione per Moncalieri" though...
