Title: RI: RI 1A (Charlestown)
Post by: mapcat on July 30, 2019, 05:13:16 pm
At the US1_C point, it is impossible to continue along this route in either direction without taking a long detour along US 1 to a U-turn and coming back the other direction. It seems that the route might be better split into two separate files at that point.

Hm. An extended "Michigan straight".
There's a similar (what length though?) case on an FM road in TX; I forget which one.
I'm leaning toward leaving as-is right now though. It'd seem odd to separate it out and still have both routes, graph-wise, end at the same point. Plus breaking 6 or 7 .list files.

FM434 @ US6. (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/31.521272,-97.0862437/31.5218574,-97.0868767/@31.5215281,-97.0914472,16z/data=!4m2!4m1!3e0)
That's 1.2 mi out one way, vice 0.6 mi for RI1A. Yikes!

Leaving it as-is works; just wanted to make sure you were aware of the odd configuration. I haven't encountered anything like this before, besides a few of the "Michigan straights" you mentioned that never went more than a few blocks out of the way.

Usual terminology for that is "J-turn" or "R-CUT", depending on the agency.
