Title: FL: Poinciana Parkway, new entry for usasf?
Post by: neroute2 on January 07, 2020, 06:55:26 pm
This is officially SR 538 (https://www.google.com/maps/@28.1444864,-81.4676886,3a,75y,253.38h,80.03t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sPC3sYqFHOrH5hIjzsMxEfQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192), but most signs (https://www.google.com/maps/@28.1426175,-81.4992795,3a,18.4y,101.99h,88.04t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sCNQ-bmu4C1JDCKwKA4kswg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192) don't show that.

(inventoried from "north to south" because it's an even number and a further extension (https://www.cfxway.com/agency-information/plans-studies/project-studies/southport-connector-expressway/) is planned east from the south end)

Find it interesting that it isn't logged in the GIS data in either the SR file or the Toll file (01/04/20 files checked).

Do you know of 'any' 538 shields on the route itself?

Otherwise, I agree from taking a look at what's available in StreetView that it should be added.  Will add it in my next FL update.

Nope. The strangest thing is that the one 538 shield I know of replaced this one (https://www.google.com/maps/@28.1444726,-81.4676463,3a,30.3y,264.82h,86.12t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sa1_vjhc7VcVuv6OBwoohHQ!2e0!5s20161201T000000!7i13312!8i6656) when the second phase was opened.

Turns out 538 is also signed on US 17/92:

I still know of none on the road itself.

Interesting.  Do you know who posted that sign?  Was it FDOT, or somebody else?

Seems they want to acknowledge it as a State Route, but don't on the other hand.  Makes it hard to decide on a file name for usasf, or if to add it to usafl instead.

They just finished adding StreetView to the entire route (from June '19).

However, no '538' shields still at that time (on the mainline).

The CFEA (https://www.cfxway.com/for-travelers/expressways/538/) website lists it as '538'.  However, while it seems to be planned as that, it isn't signed as such yet in the field sans those two 'TO' shields.  Also seems that they're going to twin (https://www.mynews13.com/fl/orlando/traffic/2019/11/06/getting-there---poinciana-pkwy-to-get-extension--when-to-expect-relief) the current segment.  So, maybe once that happens, it will finally get the FL-538 'Toll' shields.

So, as it stands, I'll treat the route as a 'S-N' route, as there seems to be a better chance it will get extended to the 'north' sooner than to the 'south'.  I can always flip the file in the future if needed, or when it's posted as 538 and hopefully gets directional banners.  Till then, I think I'll call it as 'fl.poipkwy'.

Now submitted.

We can revive the FL-538 subject when/if the mainline gets those shields.

The mainline has at least one shield now. I took this yesterday. North (west?) end, at the Polk-Osceola line.

Figures that they might start posting shields right after I add it to the site.......

Route is still not shown in either the 'toll' or 'state routes' files in the FDOT GIS as of the 03/14/20 data.

charliezeb, LMK if you see any 'directional' banners on any new shields and we can go from there in case I need to flip the direction of the route in the file.

I'm thinking, that since I've already added it to the usasf system, I'll keep it as-is till usafl is ready to activate before changing the file name and moving it over to that system.

Can confirm that SR 538 was shielded as of January 8. JP posted some photos of it, including shields in both directions on CR 580 at the south end:

There tends to be a lag between when something changes in the field and when its reflected on the FDOT files.
FWIW, I checked with Brent at FDOT D7 just now and SR 538 is still not on their GIS data.
