Title: OR: OR182 is unsigned
Post by: compdude787 on September 25, 2017, 12:20:50 am
Just noticed that OR 182 is in the highway browser. However, I was just there a month ago (shortly after seeing the solar eclipse on August 21st) and I don't recall seeing any signs for this route, nor are there any on GMSV. For this reason, it should be removed.

I'm well aware of which routes aren't signed in the field, but as they're all meant to be signed as of OTC's decision in 2002, Oregon has the unusual position of including the non-signed Routes.
I'd rather shunt them into the ORH system, but I'm not convinced that system will be included into the project, so it stays in Routes.

As noted in another thread, intention to sign is not the same as signing. OTC has had 15 years worth of opportunity to get this right, yet has not done so.
Unsigned routes are unsigned routes, and we should really be consistent in our approach to these project-wide.

Similarly, the Nova Scotia Scenic Travelways may not ever see the light of day, but that doesn't mean we should include the Cabot Trail (unsigned NS30) in Nova Scotia Trunk Highways.

Exactly. ODOT probably figured that it was too short to be worth signing, and also, that it wouldn't aid in navigation to Devil's Punchbowl State Park, since there are already signs directing motorists to that park. Just like we do with any other unsigned route, (with the one exception of Interstates) it should be removed.

For some reason, the Wikipedia article for this route states it was decommissioned in 2005. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Route_182)  However, I do not see a linked source stating that...

I just added a source to the article. It was indeed transferred to the county in 2005.

Well then...this route definitely should be removed from the HB.

In this case, I agree.

Huh.

Just looked at the ODOT GIS... and 182's been pulled from the HWY system, but it's still considered as part of the ROUTE system, putting it in the same category as OR 8 west of Forest Grove.

But at least OR 8 is signed west of Forest Grove (at least at the intersection with OR 6, according to GMSV), whereas OR 182 isn't signed at all and most likely never will be.

I'm leaning to this, but I'll email ODOT soon before I officially pull 182.
Might as well get 104S, 105, 105S, and 372 clarified while I'm at it.

182 can be pulled.
Title: OR: OR182 Unsigned and Decommissioned in 2005

OR182 is unsigned and has apparently been decommissioned since September 26, 2005, according to ODOT's History of State Highways in Oregon. (https://www.oregon.gov/odot/ETA/Documents_Geometronics/ROW-Eng_State-Highway-History.pdf) (Page 857-858)

Additionally, the route is completely unsigned, (https://www.google.com/maps/@44.7486409,-124.0514138,3a,21.2y,321.9h,86.77t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s21E-Yc4g4FuodsQ2hfQxzg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!5m1!1e1) so even if it were commissioned we do not allow unsigned routes on Travel Mapping apart from interstates.

I merged the new OR 182 post with the existing thread.

Whoops! I hadn't seen this thread before posting. My apologies! Perhaps I should have taken a peek to see if anyone had mentioned OR182 already.

Hmm, 182's still in.
Should be removed, but even if it stayed... Those shaping points near US 101 are bad.
