DE: DE 896 ALT (St Georges)
« on: November 19, 2018, 01:10:24 pm »
If I remember correctly, I looked up this route on GSV recently and did not see it posted.

I also do not remember seeing it posted along DE 72 when I drove it after the Delaware meet last fall.  Is this the case, and should it be removed from the HB?

I'd say to wait a few weeks.  I'll try to verify this when I get down there to drive the new US 301.

Yipes. Is that already, or soon-to-be, open?

The projected opening date is 1/1/2019.  I am unsure if it will actually open that day.

With the new US 301 opening tomorrow, my tentative plan to verify if this is posted will not be until 1/19/2019 at the earliest due to potential snow this weekend and car maintenance I need to get done before doing more road trips.

If anyone else sneaks down there within the next few days and is willing to take some time to check on this, it would be helpful and thankful.

I'm driving to DC on Saturday and I plan to clinch new 301 in the progress. If I can spare an extra 15 minutes, I'll check 896 ALT. I want to say the one sign linked here is the only sign on the route, as it is NOT signed at any other junction or turn. IMO, one sign along a route of this length does not mean a signed route.

I agree as I remember driving the DE 72 portion at the meet in December 2017 and did not see a sign.  I never found anything in GSV either.  I do not see it referenced in the 2017 Traffic Counts either.

I presume that you are heading to TRB.  I hope I get to go at some point, but I do not even remember getting an email about it this year.

That is correct. I found a cheap garage along the Metro in Virginia, so it is actually cheaper to drive than to fly or take Amtrak. Gives me the opportunity to clinch in the Mid-Atlantic, too.

I can confirm that there are no signs for 896 ALT north of the canal. Being as the one sign on GSV was at a ramp that no longer exists, it is likely that the route is now fully unsigned.

Thanks.   I will check out US 13 when I clinch the new US 301.  I am unsure when it may be due to a potential major winter storm next weekend.

I finally got to this today.  I saw no postings on US 13 whatsoever so I am good with deleting it.

However, I did find an odd DE 896 ALT SB posting on DE 896 NB.
