MD: MD-896 unsigned?
« on: August 15, 2018, 10:57:10 am »
This route doesn't seem to be signed, as I looked at the small area in StreetView (2014) and couldn't find a single sign for it, even though the PA & DE routes that connect to it (w/ same number) are signed routes.

Should we delete it, or as any signage shown up since StreetView was last in the area?

It's also all of a whopping 1,100 feet in the state.  SHA probably didn't even think it was worth the trouble.

If you want to go all purist, go ahead and rip it out.  But I'd say just let bygones be bygones and leave it in.  Wouldn't be the first time we "broke the rules"...won't be the last.

So I would interpret this a bit differently than "MD 896 is unsigned". Sure, there are no MD 896 shields posted (can confirm this having driven it), but MD 896 does not exist in a vacuum - it is part of multi-state DE/MD/PA 896 with the DE and PA portions being well-signed. Looking at it as one continuous multi-state route, it is to be expected that there are no 896 signs within Maryland as it is a stretch only 1100 feet long with no major junctions. There are countless sections of signed state highway that go a much longer distance between reassurance markers where we don't notice or care because no state lines pass through them.

I would make the argument that MD 896 warrants being included/left in based on the above, for the sake of continuity between DE 896 and PA 896.

I traveled all 1100 feet of MD 896 last month. No MD 896 markers, still. But I agree with froggie and Duke87 that doesn't matter, and no point in disconnecting the PA and DE parts of state route 896.

Alright, I'd just thought I'd bring it up since I randomly came across it.
