Notes from the field:

MS 333 Scenic is fully signed on MS 8 and MS 7 from I-55 eastward until 333 turns off the respective highways toward Grenada Lake.

Need to add MS 245 (Crawford) and MS 9W to the browser.

Old US 45/45A and the 7xx route in Brooksville were recently paved by MDOT but remain unsigned (and Old 45/45A unnumbered).

Signage at US 45 and MS 39 in Shuqualak says "To MS 21 South". Signage at MS 145 and MS 39 has MS 21 South Signage but not MS 21 North. It looks like MS 21 ends at MS 145 instead of US 45.

I know Froggie has previously stated dreading work
 on the 7xx routes for Mississippi (inconsistent routing/signage/responsibility)
I stopped in Kosciusko for lunch, earlier in the week, and noted signage on the south & east side of town for MS 731 & MS 735 running from the SE corner of the city square out to the MS 19/35 bypass of Kosciusko.
MS 731 following Huntington St and MS 735 following Jefferson St.
Just confirming their existence for when the time comes.

Note from the field:

MS 895 is now minimally signed on both ends. MDOT added a single MS 895 shield above the weight limit on each end (US 11/80 and Lauderdale Toomsuba Rd). I have photos that are too big to attach if needed.

I found an oops in the list for MS26...

I-55 -> I-59

(MS 26 does not come anywhere near I-55.)

Update from the field. I drove MS 370 (main section) west from US 45 to double check field signage versus street view images. MS 370 ends at CR 171. Signage on CR 170, which is definitely county maintained, only says "To MS 370" between MS 370 and MS 9.

At MS 9, MS 370 is affirmatively signed (East and West, not To) alongside MS 9 from MS 9 & 370 north to MS 30. On MS 30, signage at MS 9 only says To MS 370. There is no signage for MS 370 heading west to the next MS 370 segment that heads north from MS 30.

Update from the field: MS 729 finally has a sign.

I spotted this new sign on the I-55 NB ramp to MS 7. I had to get the zoomed photo from the interstate shoulder.

Well, this was unexpected. I found a second MS 812 off MS9W in Paris. It starts at the intersection of MS 9W and 315 and heads east for just over one block.

By statute, MS 812 is in Ruleville over in the Delta

That's weird, the little stub appears to be unlabeled on the Mississippi maps.

I checked out the Ingalls pair of routes last month. Neither have route numbers posted. MS 618 in Moss Point is apparently unsigned. I couldn't tell if it is even MDOT maintained

MS 609 and 611 are significant urban and freight routes that have always been signed. MS 613 is the old routing of MS 63 from Lucedale to Moss Point. MS 614 is a typical rural secondary route.

On a related note, I finally reclinched MS 63 & 611 that were moved over a bit as part of the US 90 interchange construction.

3.  JerStPeHwy should be shortened (if not signed as MS 619).

Last October, I didn't see any 619 shields on the entire route. (Same for 617 and 618, but I could have missed one.)

Nearby, 609, 611, 612, 613, and 614 were fully signed.

After a drive home yesterday from New Orleans...

MS 29 will need a point for MS 588.
Signage in field shows a 29/588 overlap at I-59's northbound exit, but MDOT log is mum the on exact point. 588 is signed, for future reference.



US 49 has two points for MS 13; the southern point is labeled MS13Wig but the northern one is marked "MS13". Those waypoints are labelled as US49_S and US49_N in the MS13 file.

MS 533 is well-signed.

MS 786 is signed from US 45 and had a reassurance shield.

MS 883 in Newton is signed from US 80 and has one reassurance shield.



MS 881 in Newton is not signed, though it did have "End State Maintenance" markers about where where I'd expected them.

MS 885 in Philadelphia is not signed (though labelled in Google Maps). Since it is a link between two other state-maintained sections of roadway, I did not see nor expect any additional markers to be posted.

A good majority of my drive was on MS 15. It could use some passing lanes, but most traffic kept up to 55-60mph, including the trucks. But that kept the fuel economy a little higher but overall, was pretty relaxing.

US 45 south of Hattiesburg was under some construction to put in some median concrete slabs for turning lanes, and what appeared to be drainage work.

MDOT has been slowly but surely modernizing US 49 south of Hattiesburg. They've replaced a number of 1940s bridges and have been working on safety upgrades including cutting down sharp hills where possible on the older SB lanes, removing some median crossings, converting some to left turns only, and doing some shoulder and back slope safety improvements. It's similar to work done in Simpson County a few years ago.

Took some time today to go over and address most of the comments made since December.  Have added the handful of "hidden" routes where signage was confirmed by commenters.  I'll address specific comments below, but I'm going to mention that I'm leaving most of the US 61 shaping points mentioned by Markkos as-is because either those areas are extremely remote and it doesn't make sense to add visible points, or in one case replacing one with a visible point required adding another shaping point downstream.


US 49:

The official street name for this is Old Highway 33.  Hence the label.  For the same reason, I labeled one of the US 61 visible points you suggested in the same fasion.

I'm inclined to not include this for two reasons:  the statute MS 812 being elsewhere as you mentioned, and the latest MDOT Lafayette County map makes zero indication of a state route segment existing east of 9W.

Unless signage at the 29/588 junction shows 588 continuing with 29, I'm not going to include that.  I've seen this elsewhere in Mississippi where they'll post it with directional banners instead of a proper "TO" banner.

I did include the 588 point on 29...dunno how I missed that before.

I guess Jim may have fixed the US 49/US 98 NMP over the summer.

Anyway,  the shortening labels (https://travelmapping.net/devel/manual/wayptlabels.php#truncate) and OldMS33 (https://travelmapping.net/devel/manual/wayptlabels.php#olddesignation) comments came directly from the manual.

Some observations regarding usams:

MS315Wat:
MS9 > MS9W

MS43:
The main segment of MS43 ends at Winfry Rd (WinRd) approximately 1/4 mile west (or south, depending on how you look at it) of the current endpoint in the HB.

MS43Pic:
BenSt > BeeSt

MS43A:
This route has exactly one sign near its northern terminus, but is not officially recognized by MSDOT (and locally maintained), which is most likely why it is not currently in the HB (as well as the fact that there is only the one sign, which is arguably not enough to make it worth for inclusion). It is signed on street blades as "HWY 43A." The waypoint for it on US84 is FroSt, which would indicate that it will not be added. However, the waypoint for it on MS43Arm is MS43A, which would indicate the contrary.

If the decision is made to include MS43A, then:
US84:
FroSt > MS43A

If MS43A is to be excluded, however, then:
US84:
FroSt > Hwy43A

MS43Arm:
MS43A > Hwy43A
