IA: USAUSB inconsistencies
« on: March 20, 2022, 03:30:14 pm »
IA US30busMtV - rerouted onto IA-1 to US-30.
*  The route is not signed at all!  The only signage is a single "US 30" west of Lisbon's school entrance.  The only evidence of it is street blades and said street blades follow old 30 end-to-end (even though the east end is a dead-end.)
IA US151BusCas - west leg rerouted onto IA-136 to US-151
* The signage in the field does not reflect this rerouting

This is as of the day of this post.

Markos1992, where did you get your evidence of this? Unless this is proven otherwise, I am going toward a reversion of the latter and a deletion of the former.

I’ll defer any calls to revert changes to Highway63.

Yet you are the one that submitted (at least) the US151B change.

I have an uncle who lives in Mt. Vernon. Last time I visited him, US30 had been rerouted to bypass the city as currently shown in the HB. I don't recall any Business route signs on the former alignment, but there was still at least one US30 sign visible coming into to Lisbon from the east (the one SSOWorld mentioned near the school). It was still on GMSV as of Nov 2021.

Having been in and through Mt. Vernon many times in the last few years, I don't ever recall seeing any evidence of that Business route of US30 exists in the area. Unless there is some new designation that is yet to be signed, removing this route is probably the correct move.

I wasn't paying much attention when it was added, but updated my .list file since I know I covered the stretch of road last time I was in the area. I suspect the others who have "clinched" it did the same. Getting rid of it won't affect too many of us.

Out of curiosity, how does adding a route like this happen without more evidence or input from the collaborators maintaining the various route systems? Might be useful to know so as to prevent something similar from happening in the future. As I say, mainly just wondering ???

I have not followed any of the details here.  As for the question of how changes are made, it's ultimately the person responsible for each region, in this case Highway63, who will make the call when there's anything not 100% clear.  Of course, everyone is welcome and encouraged to point out when they believe something is not quite right.

Both of these changes were made after they appeared in the AASHTO meetings.

The Business 30 in Linn County was in the Spring 2020 meeting and the Business 151 relocation was in the Fall 2021 meeting.

I received what admittedly is a non-answer from the DOT, telling me cities are in charge of the business route signage. Historically, however, business routes are created whenever the bypass opens. Since the Business 30 is after-the-fact, the state would have to replace brand-new signs.

Both of these changes were in a pack I recently sent. If you think they should be reverted, I don't know what to say. I can see both sides. Do we accept the route as AASHTO believes exists and in fact approved, or do we only go by whatever is in the field?

Based on GMSV, US151Bus is already signed in Cascade so that route is fine.

Not sure what to suggest on US30BusMtV. Unsigned routes are generally removed.

Is it better to remove it until it is signed or leave it in assuming it will eventually be signed? Seems like that's a call for Highway63 to make, perhaps with input from other regional maintainers.

I remember that there was a US 175 BUS route that yakra retracted briefly after it was not actually signed until it was later.
