FL: US-221 reroute in Perry
« on: September 22, 2021, 12:06:34 am »
Apologies for the bump, but I passed through Perry yesterday, and signage has been updated.  Also, there is some new Google imagery for the area too, with the exception of the US-19/27 and US-211/Wright St intersection.

I drove this in both directions, and it appears to have become a dogleg route of questionable usefulness, as 211 turns from Jefferson onto Wright to join with 19/27, only then to follow 27/Hampton Springs back to and then rejoin Jefferson, just to intersect 19 again and terminate there.  It reminds me of how VA-237 takes the long way around to reach Pickett St via US-29, Fairfax Circle, and US-50.

*From both directions 27, 221 northbound is still posted as using Jefferson, but I believe that the removal of this signage was just forgotten about.  I drove Jefferson between Wright and Hampton Springs, and saw no reassurance signs left standing.

Thanks for the heads up.  I'll split this out of this topic, and put a link to it in the AASHTO thread again and deal with it tonight.

Also, here's a view you missed that also helps out, US-19/98/27Alt NB @ US-27/221. ;) https://goo.gl/maps/cVQh7uMMCrzJNeaK8

It looks like MainSt_Per could just be MainSt on US 221 only.  There are no other MainSt labels on that route unlike on US 19 and US 27.

I wish that there was a better option for US19/98_Per, but I cannot think of one.  (EDIT:  Would using US19_S be feasible?)

The relocation was so that the city of Perry could take over maintenance of Jefferson Street through Downtown. The planned reroute dates back to at least 2017, if not 2016. I had my wife ask about this when she was doing some work at FDOT District 2 back in June 2017, and the hold up in the transfer then was due to the question of maintenance for the railroad crossing south of Ellis Street, which the city did not want to overtake.

I mainly just copied and pasted from the US-19 file there, and kinda just want to keep the routes labels synced along multiplexes.  Mainly to avoid any future problems in case of other reroutes.

I wish that there was a better option for US19/98_Per, but I cannot think of one.  (EDIT:  Would using US19_S be feasible?)

Yeah, I was debating about this label for awhile myself.  At first, I thought of making it US19/98_N and the southern one as US19/98_S, but didn't want to make people think there was a multiplex there.  I could maybe make it 'US19/27Alt' instead, due to US-27Alt ending at that intersection.  That's about the only other label I think would be feasible there to be honest.
