Title: usatx: Texas State Highways
Post by: yakra on January 26, 2016, 12:50:13 pm
Seeking public comment & peer review.
Prior discussion on AARoads (http://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=16776.0)

Outstanding issues in need of attention/discussion:
TX114BusRoa W terminus: I explained my reasoning in this post. (http://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=16776.msg2104632#msg2104632) It may still be worth some discussion though.
TX356: portion within Dallas City Limits recently removed from state highway system. Need to confirm cutoff point. (Elm Fork Trinity River?) Would like a link to minute order.
TX15: Si said "point at CR7?"; I don't know what he means by this.

Would you like to add a point at CR7 (in Stratford)?

Something I noticed in the field today:

TX 79:  US183 => US183/283 ?  (Both US routes are signed at that intersection.)

Added to the HB some time ago.

SprSt added to a pending pull request.

No luck finding the minute order, but the grid map (http://www.dot.state.tx.us/apps-cg/grid_search/_includes/countymapbook/Pages/417.pdf) and Statewide Planning Map (http://www.txdot.gov/apps/statewide_mapping/StatewidePlanningMap.html) have been updated. Grabbing coords from the SPM, I get 32.808869,-96.903701. This is a wee bit east of the city limits, at the western edge of the Regal Row / Irving Boulevard interchange footprint; ramp merge/diverges, yadda yadda. It also looks to correspond to where the Elm Fork Trinity River bridge touches down on dry land.
What do y'all think is best for point placement & labeling? ElmForkRiv http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=32.808869&lon=-96.903701 ?

Submitted a pull request truncating TX356. I went with EFTriRiv @ the coords in my last post.
Quote
For a highway ending at a bridge and not at an intersection, End can be the label. If the bridge's name is official and signed, the name of the bridge can be used, truncated like a highway name. If there is no official bridge name but the bridge traverses only a river with an official name, use the river name.
When "Truncat[ing] like a highway name", I'm replacing the generic road type with a generic water-body type in this case.
With that...

This system is pretty much ready to go live. I'm confident that NE2's review on AARoads was a very thorough one. That said, it's still not undergone any systematic review from a CHM/TM veteran to get "standards" stuff such as waypoint labels, placement, etc.
Does it need one? It's my work, so of course I think it's fine! :D
If I don't hear anything by the end of May, I'll put in a pull request to activate.

Was entering some of my own travels and noticed that for TX105 the waypoint FM174 should be FM1774. Just wanted to bring this to your attention. Thanks!
