Title: NC: New US 70 Business in Beaufort
Post by: oscar on August 08, 2018, 12:16:27 am
Earlier this week, I traveled the new US 70 alignment north of Beaufort, already in the HB. I also noticed that there is a new US 70 Business in Beaufort, including part of the old US 70 alignment. This new route is not yet in the HB.

The new route follows, from east to west, Live Oak Street and Cedar Street (both parts of the old US 70 alignment), then turns north on Turner Street to connect to the new US 70 alignment. Signage is very good on the business route itself, and also EB on the new US 70 alignment. WB, there is no signage where the new alignment meets Live Oak St., apparently since that intersection is temporarily closed while the connection between the old and new US 70s is being finished up.

None of the various online maps in our current HB show the new business route, nor do Google Maps or Bing Maps. Then again, many online maps don't yet show the new US 70 alignment, either.

There is also nothing in the NCDOT route changes page for this, so surprise!

This also solves the mystery (presumably) of what was going to happen to the dangling NC 101 end - nothing!

Right. At the junction with the new US 70 alignment, NC 101 is signed as continuing south into downtown Beaufort.
