Seems like I-40's eastern end just gained some brand new 'END (https://maps.app.goo.gl/bGRPXNu5YNn9ZseP8)/BEGIN (https://maps.app.goo.gl/e3g73p1w3d2JGXef7)' shields in the last few months.
There's also a 'END I-40 2400 FT' shield (https://maps.app.goo.gl/xQWftdv4S4n3mcjr9) on the SB US-117 onramp to I-40 there. Seems to almost line up perfectly to the location mileage wise from that shield too (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/34.2764511,-77.8698104/34.2706296,-77.8686932/@34.2732675,-77.8707524,976m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!4m1!3e0?entry=ttu).
Worth justifying a short extension of the route? I think yes since the END/BEGIN shields are outside of the interchange footprint.

I wonder if this is the only school speed zone on an interstate?

There's a noticeable pavement change at the new BEGIN/END sign location as well.
-
Need to remember corresponding points in US 117 and NC 132 to keep them concurrent.
-
Just also noticed on the WB side, they have the text 'BEGIN FRIS' (https://maps.app.goo.gl/AAU9q49snDcSoTJg8) on the pavement.
And just looked at some of the more historical StreetView imagery, they had previous BEGIN/END shields there before at that same spot. They were just missing for a few years.

I-40 extended
-
Wanted to give a heads up to those who have the easternmost part of I-40 and want to extend that if you traveled all the way to the new end, as of tonight's site update that point will be US117_S.
