UNESCAP Asian Highway Group 9th meeting
« on: June 15, 2021, 01:03:58 pm »
This is tomorrow and Thursday.

Proposed amendments to the routes already published.

There's a relatively minor reroute of AH41 to avoid Chittagong (now officially Chattogram) city centre, via an unbuilt route with a tunnel along the coast.

Similarly, the AH21 is being proposed as routing to the north of Siem Reap on a route that doesn't seem to have been built yet (unlike the Bangladeshi change, there's not even a construction/proposed line on OSM for this Cambodian change)

And finally, Pakistan proposes AH52 along the motorway (not finished) between Lahore and Karachi. This route is entirely concurrent with AH4, but there doesn't seem to be much bother about that (eg last time they approved the previously pencilled in AH34 in China, but also approved a newly proposed AH9 that included the entire AH34 length as part of its route - they even show it on this schematic map).

Lets see if they can get announcement of what changes have been approved before AASHTO, whose meeting took place a month before (and haven't published the proposed changes). :P

And the report of the meeting has been uploaded. (nothing from AASHTO yet...).

Bangladesh withdrew its proposal, pointing out that it was a future change post-construction (good on them). Cambodia and Pakistan's changes were adopted, despite being based on future construction (and, in Pakistan's case, pointless).
