WI: Route point concerns and exit numbers
« on: April 18, 2021, 05:32:59 pm »
I-41/US 41:
1.  All US41 labels for intersecting routes along I-41 should be changed to I-41. (list of those not already mentioned below or already done: WI60, WI144, WI33, WI28, WI67, WI49, WI26, WI44, WI91, WI21, WI76, WI114, WI125, WI47, WI55, WI172, WI29)
2.  The 39 label should be moved south to the US 18 interchange and given a graph connection there.  (also affects US 45)  Was Wisconsin Ave ever actually Exit 39?  (Also, the ToI-41 label on US 18 should be changed to I-41.)
3.  I think you could make the case for a graph connection with WI 145 at 48A.  (keeping the current 48A as a hidden shaping point for mapping purposes)  WI 145 already has this point labeled as US41/45_S. (also affects US 45 and WI 100)
4.  164 should be 164A.
5.  165 should be 164B.
6.  168 should be 168A.
7.  169 should be 168B.
8. 170 should be 170A.  (also affects US 141)
9. 171 should be 170B.  (also affects US 141)

US 41 (after I-41 ends):
1.  LinRd should be 173.  (also affects US 141)
2.  CRB_Bro should be 176.  (also affects US 141).
3.  BroRd should be 179.  (also affects US 141)
4.  CRS_Oco should be 182.  (also affects US 141)
5.  CRD_Oco should be 185.  (also affects US 141)
6.  US141_N should be 187.  (also affects US 141)
7.  US41BusOco_S should be 197.
8.  WI22 should be 198.
9.  US41BusOco_N should be 200.
10.  I think SchLn should be CRM_Mar, and CRM_Mar should be KammRd.
11.  US41BusPes_S should be 212.
12.  US41BusPes_N should be 216.

US 45 (starting at first split with I-41/US 41):
1.  WI145 should be 60.
2.  WI60 should be 63.
3.  PleValRd should be 65.
4.  ParDr should be 68.
5.  WI33/144 should be 71.
6.  CRD_Oza should be 73.
7.  A graph connection is needed at US151_S.  (More related coming to US 151)
8.  Should LakDr be LakDr_S?
9.  The shaping point near Kinker Rd should be made visible.
10.  The shaping point by Fahrnwald Rd should be made visible.
11.  MainSt_Osh could be MainSt_N if there is not another label preventing this from occurring.

WI 145:
1.  See number 2. US41/45_S should be relabeled to I-41(48A).  US41/45_N should be relabeled to I-41(48B).
2.  US41 should be I-41(60).

WI 167: US41/45_S should be relabeled to I-41(54).  US41/45_N should be relabeled to I-41(57).

WI 44:  WI91 should be WI91_W.

WI 91:  WI44 should be WI44_S.

WI 32:  US41/54 should be  I-41(168A).  US41/29 should be I-41(168B).

US 10, US 151, WI 29, and WI 441 will be covered separately.

WI: US 51 Point Concerns and Exit Numbers
« Reply #2 on: April 18, 2021, 07:56:08 pm »
1.  The shaping point south of CRM_RocE should be replaced with a visible point at Kidder Rd (KidRd).
2.  The shaping point north of CRB/AB_Dan should be replaced with a visible point at Mahoney Rd (MahRd).
3.  PfaRd should be PflRd.
4.  WI19 should be 61.
5.  WinRd should be 63.
6.  To handle the relocation north of WinRd, VinRd and CRDV_Dan should be removed as points completely.  You can add an updates entry if you see fit here.
7.  CRV_DanW should be 65.
8.  CRV_DanE should be marked as closed.
9.  The shaping point north of WI60_W could be replaced with a visible point at Loveland Rd (LovRd).
10.  Should CRVJ_Col be CRJ/V_Col instead?
11.  CRR/N_Mar should be 188.  (also affects WI 29)
12.  MouRd should be 190.  (also affects WI 29)
13.  WI29_W should be 191
14.  WI52 should be 192.
15.  BriSt should be 193.
16.  CRU_Mar should be 194A.  (with a slight recentering)
17.  US51BusWau should be 194B.  (with a slight recentering)
18.  CRWW_Mar should be 197.
19.  CRQ_Lin should be 205.
20.  WI64 should be 208.
21.  CRK_Lin should be 211.
22.  CRS_Lin should be 225.
23.  WI86 should be 229.
24.  CRA_Lin should be 231.
25.  US8 should be 234.
26.  I recommend looking at replacing the shaping point between CRN_Vil and CRH_Vil with a visible point.  (maybe at Day Lake Rd?)
27. The shaping point just south of CRC_Iro (which should arguably be split into two points for two intersections) should be CRCC_Iro.
28.  The shaping point northwest of CRC_Iro could maybe be replaced with a visible point at Center Dr (CenDr).
29.  Note that the line on US 51 between WI 77 and US 2 briefly enters Michigan.  Maybe a point at 10thAve (10thAveN) would rectify this.

46.   US45/29Bus_N should be 198. (also affects US 45)
47.   CRQ_ShaN should be Townline Rd (TowRd).
48.   Points should be added at Middle Branch Rd (MidBraRd) and River Rd (RivRd) for shaping purposes.
49.   CRG_Sha should be CRG_ShaS.
50.   A point should be added at Hickory Rd (HicRd) as the route goes out of tolerance here.

54.   CRG_Jef should be relocated.
55.   I am unsure that US 12 and WI 26 BUS (Fort Atkinson)’s routes in the HB are right.  I can at least state that it looks like US 12 EB and WB are split between Robert St and Main St/3rd St in Fort Atkinson.

4.  The shaping points east of CRGG_Ver should be replaced with visible points at Cut-A-Cross Rd and Lovaas Ridge Rd (LovRidRd). (also affects US 61)
5.  WI56/82 should be slightly recentered.  (also affects US 61 and WI 27)
6.  The shaping point southeast of WI56/82 should be replaced with visible points at CRJJ_Ver and CRT_Ver.  (also affects US 61)
7. CRE_Ric and CREE_Ric should be relocated.
8.  The shaping point south of CREE_Ric should be replaced by a visible point at JimTownRd.
9.  CRG_Ric should be slightly recentered.
10.  Points should be added at CRKK_Ric and DeerRunRd for shaping purposes.
11.  I recommend adding a point at Tuckaway Valley Rd (TucValRd) for shaping purposes.
12.  6thSt should be 6thSt_E.
13.  A point should be added at Old Sextonville Dr (OldSexDr) for shaping points.
14.  WI19/78 needs to be relocated.
15.  The shaping point south of WI19/78 should be replaced by a visible point at Olson Rd (OlsRd).
16.  I would think that the CRKP points would be CRKP_Dan, CRKP_DanN, and CRKP_DanS.
17.  See US 12 for the US 12 concurrency in Madison.
18.  US12/18_E should be 132.
19.  McCoyRd should be 133.
20.  A point needs to be added at Lacy Rd (Exit 134).
21.  CRMM_Dan should be 139.
22.  WI138 should be 140.  ParkSt should be removed as it is already practically in the interchange.
23.  I recommend adding a point at Rutland Rd (RutRd) for shaping purposes.
24.  MainSt should be MainSt_W.
25.  A point should be added at Riley Rd (RilRd) as the route goes out of tolerance here.
26.  A point should be added at Harmony Town Hall Rd for shaping purposes.
Unused alternate labels that can be removed: WI78/F

WI 80: Should CRN/Q_Ric be two separate points?

I merged all the recent Wisconsin posts into one thread to avoid clutter on the board. I am working through these.

Did I miss something? I thought exit numbers as waypoint names was "author's discretion" beyond interstates.

Required for new (E.G. state, provincial, select freeway, etc.) routes.
Originally when US Highways got underway on CHM, exit numbers were prohibited for US Highways. It may have had to do with in, part, coping with the headache of multiple, potentially overlapping, exit number sequences. Or something.
In any case, Standards on how to deal with this have since become a little more solidified, and we've moved away from that old rule. Many US Routes have been changed to use exit numbers. Many others have stayed no-build.
As I view it, it's author's discretion whether to update to use exit numbers on US Routes, or go no-build and keep the existing old-style named labels.

As I have explained in other recent posts, it is not a full cut-and-dry issue.  Most of these roads have significant freeway and expressway portions that curtail more towards exit numbers.  (not just one random exit number or two that shows up and then none for many miles)

In the sense of WI specifically, I even found a list from WIDOT that has a list of exit numbers on US and state routes along with interstates.  I do not mind us having further discussion on whether certain sections of road should be changed to exit numbers or not.  (sort of like what is going on in the IA thread now)

EDIT:  Update for new interchange coming on WI 29: https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=6819.msg2604037#msg2604037

Further US 18 Concerns: (not mentioned previously and on nonconcurrent sections with US 151 and US 12)
1.  The shaping points south of WI27 should be relocated (with the latter replaced by a visible point at Wacouta St (WacSt).  (also affects WI 60)
2.  HunHolRd looks like it should be slighly relocated.
3.  Does CRN_Jef still intersect US 18?  I did not see any signage for it.
4.  CRJ_Jef should probably be changed to CRW_Jef.
5.  The shaping points east of CRY_Jef could be replaced by visible points at Coffee Rd (CofRd) and Helenville Rd (HelRd).
6.  Should there be discussion on whether US 18 Temporary should be added into the HB?  (I would say no based on what I see in Waukesha, but I am not 100% on that.)
7.  Should CRG_WauS be changed to BraRd (Brandybrook Rd)?
8.  WI59_S should be WI59_W.  WI59_N should be WI59_E.
9.  MorBlvd should be MorBlvd_W.
10.  MainSt should be MainSt_E.  (also affects WI 164 as shown below)
11.  I think that CRYY_WauN should be CRO_Wau.  I am unsure where I am at on CRYY_WauS.
12.  ToWI175 should be WisAve_W.
13.  It looks like US 18 has been rerouted between 17thSt_N and WI145 to use Highland Ave east to WI 145 and then turn south.  (could justify graph connection with a new I-43 point labeled 72E.  Otherwise WI 145 would just need a US18_W at Highland Ave with US18 becoming US18_E.)
14.  Unused alternate labels that can be removed: CRC_Wau_N

WI 35: US18/60_W should be just US18/60.

WI 60: US18/35_E should be just US18/35.

WI 59: SunDr_E should just be SunDr.  (only intersects it once unlike US 18)

WI 164:
1.  SunDr_E should just be SunDr.  (only intersects it once unlike US 18)
2.  The MainSt_W point on US 18 needs to be added to this route due to a broken concurrency.  MainSt should be MainSt_E.

Many of the non-exit number related changes (including WI 30's change to all exit numbers) are included in (https://github.com/TravelMapping/HighwayData/pull/4846).

EDIT:  WI 16:  I  still wonder if this should instead be CRW_Mon instead of CRW_Mil.

Looking closer at the map, you are right. I wish county lines were more visible in OSM. I have also noted the point shift in WI 27 at I-94.

I foresee the rest of Wisconsin coming in three or so chunks. I'm giving a little breathing room between them for the soft cleanups like the WI 16 point. There may be a couple of junction areas where concurrencies will be temporarily broken, but I think all of them will match by the end of the month.

WI: Multiple broken concurrencies in SW Wisconsin
« Reply #14 on: June 03, 2021, 09:11:34 pm »
US61 and US14 should be concurrent with WI27 and WI82 south of Viroqua. It looks like US61 and US14 share a concurrency as do WI27 and WI82. From what I can deduce, two waypoints (CRJ_Ver & CRNN_Ver) were added recently to the WI routes but not to the concurrent US routes.

Additionally, WI56 and WI82 should be concurrent as they head east out of town. I can't figure out the source of the error other than it seems to be tied to the intersection of of Decker and Main Streets. I'm not sure, but it looks like there might be two near miss waypoints (US14/61 and US14/61_N) which should be located at the same coordinates.

And on the north end of town, WI27 now has a broken concurrency with US14/61.

What appears to have been a well-intentioned update to a couple state routes in WI has created a broken concurrency nightmare in this area. There appear to be a similar problem in Richland County with US14 and WI60. Given the widespread nature caused by these recent point additions, I suspect there might be other broken concurrencies.

My apologies in advance if these concurrency issues were intended to be fixed on a subsequent update. I went in to correct a new log error caused by the recent changes and discovered quite a bit more problems than I anticipated.
