Title: FL: usasf - Disney World freeways?
Post by: neroute2 on December 09, 2018, 05:09:49 pm
World Drive is freeway from Griffin Road https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/28.32157/-81.57171 to just north of Vista Boulevard https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/28.39491/-81.57247 .
Epcot Center Drive is freeway from World Drive https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/28.37812/-81.56587 to the beginning of FL 536 https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/28.36318/-81.52930 (which needs to be fixed in usafl).
Osceola Parkway is freeway (once ongoing construction is done) from Disney's Animal Kingdom https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/28.34932/-81.59319 to I-4 https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/28.34553/-81.53334 .

I was going to start a new topic on this but was informed there's already one. I don't understand how the Disney World freeways are any different from stuff like Pena Blvd or Summerlin Parkway, both of which are clinchable as part of the usasf system.

Should we merge the topic into freeways missing from usasf (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?topic=3480)?

Now I'm wondering how the dissolution of the Reedy Creek Improvement District will affect these roads.

Why would it change anything? The roads will still exist and be gay as ever.

The point of the RCID is that Disney maintains all the infrastructure and provides all government services in exchange for getting to be the government.  No RCID, no Disney maintaining those roads.

The cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista would still exist. And if they somehow can't maintain them, the counties are much more likely than the state to take over.

Or would they not just become private roads owned by Big Mouse?

Yeah, my understanding is that Disney is still in full control of these roadways as it is still their property.  I do not think that anything will change here beyond maybe World Drive west of US 192.  I am unsure if World Drive there is actually Disney property.

The freeways are RCID property and fully public.

For TM purposes, why does it even matter exactly which entity maintains them? They are freeways that aren't included under a signed state highway number.

This. Nothing needs happen unless another jurisditction takes them and slaps a different designation on them.

I would think a designation change would be standard operating procedure for a change of jurisdiction.  Unrelated to TM, I would expect the signage to eventually be replaced with something complying with the MUTCD as well.

Even if they go from one sub-state level entity to another?

Sure. We have Clark County 215, and had Lane County's Delta Highway prior to it becoming OR 132.
