Title: NJ: NJ 29 & NJ 165 in Lambertville
Post by: mapcat on March 17, 2024, 02:20:45 pm
NJ 29 follows Main St (https://www.google.com/maps/@40.3663356,-74.9428995,3a,35.4y,175.27h,88.81t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s5kawk_Y7LXo89W00J8tIwQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu) in Lambertville. Since Main St is one way southbound (https://www.google.com/maps/@40.3626966,-74.942295,3a,73.8y,285.44h,86.65t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sC_kEtxr589Z8rzAqzQdFYw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu) south of Swan St, northbound traffic is directed along the route signed as NJ 165 (https://www.google.com/maps/@40.3644556,-74.9417079,3a,47.6y,262.5h,89.32t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1swsuZ_XoO7H1Jb49lb5WcfA!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DwsuZ_XoO7H1Jb49lb5WcfA%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D164.6541%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu) from Bridge St (NJ 179) to the 165/Main St intersection with TO NORTH 29 (https://www.google.com/maps/@40.362612,-74.9421155,3a,45.9y,22.69h,89.99t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sFIe_VxrdPCsnOAfHCLXo5g!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu) signs. Likewise, NJ 165 has TO SOUTH 29 (https://www.google.com/maps/@40.3661055,-74.9419482,3a,23.5y,173.4h,88.82t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sz23bV-mWhaHjZJ-1hME1jQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu) signs heading the other direction.

So it's worth noting that Main St south of Swan is not on the state highway system and according to NJDOT's Straight Line Diagrams (https://njsld.org/NJDOT/SLD/SheetViewer/00000029__/17/4) both directions of NJ 29 actually follow the road that NJ 165 street sign blade is on... which is exactly how it is mapped in the HB.

NJ 165 does also officially exist on that segment of road per the same documentation, which is presumably how it ended up on that street sign blade, but it's entirely concurrent with NJ 29 and thus there's really nothing to map.

I would vote no build on this and shrug it off as DOT stupidity.

Fair enough. Request withdrawn.

Thanks for the link to the SLDs. Another issue I was going to bring up (south endpoint of NJ 73 being signed at the ACE instead of US 322) is negated by the SLDs as well.
