Title: FL: FL-72 & FL-758 shortened to US-41
Post by: rickmastfan67 on June 07, 2021, 12:17:28 am
Seems both FL-72 & FL-758 have been shorted on their Western end to US-41 per the FDOT GIS.

According to Max Rockatansky on AARoads (http://Max Rockatansky), signage hasn't changed yet, and both routes are still fully signed west of US-41.

Something to keep an eye on to update both files.

I debated mentioning this since I noticed the GIS change a few months ago while researching the FL 470 situation.

FL 72 and FL 758 truncations are related to a transfer agreement with Sarasota County where Sarasota County gives CR 777 River Rd (from US41 to I-75) to the state.
Summarized here: https://data.charlottecountyfl.gov/Agenda/20190228/A2.pdf
and here: https://www.heraldtribune.com/news/20190909/in-sarasota-county-river-road-land-swap-plan-pushed-back

I field checked 72, 758, and the CR777/I-75 interchange in early April but saw no changes.

I suspect sign changes are planned to be made with the associated construction projects

Interesting that we're gaining a FL-777 in return.

Keep me updated!

Found a more recent article (Jan 2021) mentioning the so-far quiet transfer for CR777: https://www.yoursun.com/venice/changes-set-for-river-road/article_8f448c56-4f99-11eb-82ff-4f95942af8bd.html

There was no ribbon-cutting ceremony. No change in signs. Nothing that indicated a change of ownership.

Instead, there was just the quiet stroke of pens on paper.

To residents and drivers, that change was not apparent as the county continued to maintain North River Road under the terms of the agreement.

But this summer, the county will cease maintenance as the state begins a major construction project to improve the road, according to Ken Stokes, Public Works infrastructure coordination program manager for the Florida Department of Transportation.

GSV shows FL 758 (https://www.google.com/maps/@27.2992182,-82.5304693,3a,15y,220.28h,91.35t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sVR2SM9s-zKQkgR6PQ3v6ZA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192) and FL 72 (https://www.google.com/maps/@27.2597815,-82.5218934,3a,75y,290.56h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sjb4VxAwn8Iq9gnHvks6sDg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192) shortened to US 41 on US 41 itself.  However, this shield is still there for FL 758 (https://www.google.com/maps/@27.2989141,-82.5324947,3a,75y,257.75h,81.77t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s83J6KfewTyrCKHkwVkKr8A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192), and this still shows FL 72 WB (https://www.google.com/maps/@27.2616954,-82.5236458,3a,75y,228.31h,103.04t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sqNym00m0ChwzMA4CvLFAVg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192).

I guess we will not se FL 777 signage until construction is complete. (https://www.google.com/maps/@27.1060701,-82.3465432,3a,75y,186.71h,77.18t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sBHsEQnRiH8bjYYbI2YvdeA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192)

and this still shows FL 72 WB (https://www.google.com/maps/@27.2616954,-82.5236458,3a,75y,228.31h,103.04t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sqNym00m0ChwzMA4CvLFAVg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192).

However, if you zoom in on the background and look @ the signage on the ground, you can see the WB shield gone on the assembly, leaving only the EB one.

But then we get this crazy thing on 'former' FL-758 west of US-41.....

Dec '21 (https://goo.gl/maps/K2a5PTByUCNdW6gH6) -> Sept '22 (https://goo.gl/maps/jnKYnMWXg5xRWvpn8)

Not only did they replace the FL-758 shield, but they added a 'West' banner on top.....

Maybe they're leaving it up to the county on that part to remove signage since the signage was only removed on the state portion (US-41)?
