I'm working on configuring https for TM's web server. This will include some brief downtime for server restarts, but it could be more significant if I break anything. I'm starting the process with some of the other sites on the same server, so hopefully by the time I get to travelmapping.net and forum.travelmapping.net, things will go smoothly.

The forum and main site should now be running on https://. Old URLs with http:// hard-coded should be redirected but that might not be perfect. I've fixed a few items that caused trouble as I've been switching things over, but please let me know if you see problems. The problems I've encountered so far involve trying to load scripts or stylesheets over http from an https page, which is disallowed by modern browsers. I few instances may have snuck in, and one (https://github.com/TravelMapping/Web/issues/481) seems to need a bit more investigation but only affects a couple of our map tile options.

Shield fonts are not rendering correctly in the HB.

Looking good in a few checks on my end. For which ones are you seeing problems?
-
Looking good now. I'm not sure that I've closed & reopened my browser since then, but maybe it took time for some cached items to catch up.

I experience strange behavior on the forum today. Many Posts I read are still marked as NEW on the board page after I've read them. Even my own posts are indicated being NEW. I need to open the thread minimum twice again (3 times in total) so that the NEW flag disappears. I've restarted the browser and even the PC but still the same. It was fine yesterday, but the latest change was the https thing.....
Does anyone else have this issue?
edit: It worked fine with this post though.
edit2: Then I've edited the post and I have the issue now. I leave the thread by clicking on the "navigation line" to go to board level - this link: https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?board=9
-
I've seen similar behavior but have not attempted to investigate.
-
Maybe somewhere there's an http:// item trying to get imported/run? That's all I can think of as a possibility, but I'm no expert on the specifies of SMF. The AARoads Forum runs over https so maybe @rickmastfan67 has some insight on whether they're encountered behavior like this on their https server?
-
It's really annoying today. I have to open the thread 3 or 4 times till it's finally marked read. Or is it a timing problem? The mark read button does also not help.
edit: It always happens when I edit a post. My post is marked "NEW".
-
Hmm, it works flawless today :)
A$%(§Q%)A%TW)AT)TRQ) Nope! Same issue again - hell!
-
You might just have to get used to it. Marking a topic as unread if the last post gets edited has been how things work over at AARoads since forever, to the point I'm actually surprised it didn't work that way here. It might just be the intended behavior of the forum software, although why it changed at the same time as https was implemented is a mystery.
-
But why do I need to open the thread multiple times to get rid off the NEW icon? Even pressing "Mark read" does not help....
And why does it not always happen?
well, if I'm the only one with this problem, maybe there is any other reason......
-
And it's not limited to edited posts. I had to open the thread of my latest post 10 times to get rid off the NEW indication....
-
I didn't have the issue with the previous post but where back to the url=https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php. Opened this board (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?board=9) again, back to index, back to board 9, back to index and this board (Welcome & Notices) and the "General Web Design Discussion" have the icon for unread posts now.....
-
I am not sure what to make of it, as I have never seen that problem in either this forum or on AARoads. I would suggest we wait until this weekend's planned update of the SMF software on this forum to see if anything changes.
-
I don't request that you should do anything. We don't know what happens, so what should be changed?
I just report about it because I hope that I'm not the only one and maybe anyone else has an idea what could cause it. The behavior appeared quite suddently....
-
michih, have you tried to clean out all of your cookies in the browser and then relogin and see if that fixes it? I don't seem to have the issues you're talking about.

no, doesn't work. I've closed FF and opened it again. I use private mode, all cookies etc. are automatically cleared on closing.
I think that it only happens when I've posted anything on the board. But not always...... And the problem disappears after a while (time depending?)
-
This time it was fine after leaving the board. Then I opened it again, back to main page, and the "unread posts icon" appeared again.
edit: The behavior of the first page after leaving the thread where I've posted anything is fine. It can be the board overview or the forum main page. The second page call is incorrect.
thread -> board overview -> main page
thread -> main page -> board overview
thread -> main page -> other board -> main page

Maybe a problem with timestamps? It looks like TM's server is right on. Is your computer's clock accurate and the time zone info correct?
-
Nothing has changed about time on my end. Last sync was last night.

The url has "Not Secure" in it because there are elements (images?, styles?) that are still linked with "http://". Most likely in posts.

Try your avatar (since only yours on this page is hosted off-site). ;) It's on http, not https. ;)
-
alas you're right. However I couldn't load it with "https://" - message resulting was "Call to undefined function "dl()"
Same was true for uploading an avatar.
This (my guess) is more due to my image's format or size - I tried as small as 100x100 px.
So - No avatar for now. and the "padlock" returns.
-
The limit was set at 80x80. However, I've just upped it to 100x100.
-
I haven't updated the Web/ software on my mirror in a long time, other than to test out improvements I've worked on.
To get full functionality (other than location) with the newest revisions, would I need to upgrade lab2 to https as well?

I don't believe so. The only changes I made to make things work with https involved replacing lots of http:// links with https:// links since an https:// page will refuse load anything through an http:// link. The other way around, loading something through https:// on an http:// page, shouldn't be a problem.

Tried 100x100, 90x90 and 80x80, got the same error as before.

What format is it? You can link the image to me (via URL) in a PM and I could try to add it for you.

I just want to say that the issue reported upthread has gone with the forum software update :)

Good to hear that!
