According to this NCDOT map, the northern end should be truncated to the Coral Dr intersection (https://ncdot.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=9ddc945069a0497cbc3587c64b442f31). (I do not know what happened to the END sign shown on NC Roads Annex).

Farther south, NC 12 is expected to soon be rerouted away from part of the Pea Island wildlife refuge, which is unusually vulnerable to storm damage, onto a new "jughandle" bridge over Pamlico Sound near Rodanthe. OSM shows the new bridge alignment. The bridge was briefly opened earlier this month for a community event, limited to pedestrians and bicyclists, with plans to open it to motor vehicle traffic later this month (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=100.msg2725983#msg2725983).
I expect to be down there at the end of the month, can follow up with more details.

I merged both NC 12 topics together. I had already started one before for the Rodanthe realignment.
I was actually looking to clarify where the north end was so I could clinch that part for the Outer Banks Meet. I was not planning to go to Rodanthe.

It's a fairly short hop from Nags Head. It's south of the new Oregon Inlet bridge, but north of the ferry crossing to Ocracoke, so no ferry crossing hassle.
I plan to come up through Ocracoke (after taking the ferry from Swan Quarter, having long ago done the Cedar Island ferry), the day before the meet. No extra time needed for me to clinch both bridges, though I will be so p____d if the Rodanthe jughandle bridge isn't (re)opened this month.
I've done NC 12's north end already, don't need to do it again. I'll play it by ear what to do instead.

The March 2022 Currituck County Map (https://xfer.services.ncdot.gov/imgdot/DOTCountyMaps/PDFs/Currituck_CountyMap_Sheet01_Final_web.pdf) still shows NC 12 at its 1987 defined end (https://connect.ncdot.gov/resources/safety/Route%20Changes/1987_07_17.pdf) of 0.3 miles north of SR 1185.
Incidentally, the posted END sign was actually south of SR 1185 - located here (https://goo.gl/maps/iATuVvuLdRQLSBs86)

As a note, there is still no END sign at the north end of NC 12 as of April 30th. (though I was surprised to see END signs for NC 343 and NC 344 farther west on the mainland)

The Rodanthe "jughandle" bridge, rerouting about 2.5 miles of NC 12 west over Pamlico Sound, is expected to finally open to traffic next week (https://islandfreepress.org/outer-banks-news/jug-handle-bridge-is-scheduled-to-open-to-traffic-next-week/), after Memorial Day weekend. Too bad it won't be open while I'm in the Hampton Roads area over that weekend. But I expect to be back there in July, and can probably work in a side trip to reclinch the rerouted NC 12.

On the first site update after the change to reroute onto the bridge near Rodanthe, the new segment shows 41 travelers. It will be interesting to watch this number drop as people update. I often don't worry about minor realignments but this one looks significant enough that I removed the segment from my list.

mapmikey, did you intend to truncate the north end or did you decide not to?

decided not to. What is the actual evidence it was truncated besides 1 on-line map showing a slight truncation?
NCDOT engineering letters (https://connect.ncdot.gov/resources/gis/Pages/DELetters.aspx) show changes down to 0.01 miles differences and they now include the primary system. I did not see anything related to NC 12 here or where the original changes were placed.

I found it easier to make the short drive up to where pavement gives way to sand, with the road pointing you straight into the ocean, and a sign directing drivers to let air out of their tires for beach driving, rather than worry about endpoint placement.

Ok I turned around in the parking lot where we have the ending now in the HB. I was uncomfortable heading any farther north than there.

Anyway I thought it was implied that we had the north end too far north in the HB, and that it never actually went north of where the old END sign was. The map just reinforces that IMO.

This new link you have shows the same as what I have in Reply #5 - NC 12 endpoint is north of SR 1185.
But not as far as we have it (https://travelmapping.net/hb/showroute.php?r=nc.nc012), right?

Took another close look at this. TM did have the endpoint too far north, and I was in error in describing the former END sign being in the wrong location.
I have moved the north end to 0.3 miles north of SR 1185, where the END sign was.

Relooking at that map, I would change NorBeaRd to OceTrl. Otherwise, all is good here.

Resurrecting this thread for a minor update.
I drove the Rodanthe Jughandle bridge last week, after it opened (finally!) the preceding week. The north end of the new alignment is now a closed intersection and can be relabeled as such (*OldNC12_N), with that end of the old road coned off, pending its planned removal within the wildlife refuge after all the power and other utility lines have been moved to the new bridge. The other end of the old road, south of the wildlife refuge, remains open for access to local business and residences, so no relabel needed for OldNC12_S.
