NC: NC 119 Mebane Relocation
« on: April 24, 2021, 09:56:16 am »
Based on this article, it looks like the Mebane Bypass will open sometime this summer.

However, I recommend adding a point at 5thSt now based on this article from earlier in the week (confirmed from what I see in OSM).

Other unrelated revisions I recommend further north:
1.  Adding visible points at Lynch Store Rd (LynStoRd), Dickey Mill Rd (DicMillRd), Pleasant Grove Union School Rd (PleGroRd), Huffines Rd (HufRd), and Rascoe Dameron Rd (RasDamRd) for shaping purposes.
2.  The shaping point northeast of NC 86 should be replaced with a visible point at Griers Church Rd (GriChuRd).

The project website states that this will now open in Summer 2022.

(Thankfully it should open by the end of the month if it is not open already.)

^I thought that it would not be because of Mebane wanting to revitalize former NC 119 in Downtown.  Maybe mikeandkristie took a Memorial Day weekend roadtrip to clinch it and clarify that for us.

I plan to clinch NC/VA 119 on June 10th when I go down to the Raleigh-Durham area to scout for the roadmeet I am planning for later this year.

So NC 119 is still posted in downtown Mebane.  However, there are no NC 119 signs in regard to the old alignment at the bypass. I think it is safe to assume that there will not be a NC 119 BUS, but I am concerned when NCDOT may actually remove the other NC 119 signs on the old route.

EDIT:  Bolded to better clarify what I meant.

OK, I hadn't heard that it was open yet.  While we did have a Memorial Day trip, we skipped past there on the way out.  Usually, I look to see how 40 is doing from 15-501 out to 85 (exits 270 - 259) to avoid getting stuck in rush hour.  Even leaving on Thursday, it was a lot of red.  So we'll swing around 540, out US 64 to Siler City, and then up US 421 back to I-85 around the south side of Greensboro.

Did too many new mileage "shenanigans" in Tennessee on the drive back, so it was around midnight as we were passing back through Mebane.

It does sound like Markkos1992 has gotten in there to scout it out.  We've got 2 or 3 trips coming up that will have us heading west on 40, so we should be able to hop off and take a look as well while getting the new section.

Mike

I still recommend this change be done, but the rest looks good at this point.
