TN: Atwood bypass (US79, US70A, TN76)
« on: March 08, 2025, 04:22:51 pm »
So I guess a new portion of bypass opened up around Atwood, TN in November 2024. (news article) (latest GMSV from south end) (latest GMSV from north end) What I've seen on Google, this bypass currently runs from just south of Atwood to just east of Atwood at US70A, and will eventually bypass Trezevant, too. Right now, the imagery isn't current enough to see what signage is posted, but from the stuff I've read, as well as Google seem to call it TN-76 at the moment. Obviously, once completed this will be US79, but it's unknown if it or US70A are currently signed here. But I did want to post it in case someone is near or traveling through to see what's up so we know what to put in the HB.

A video is up driving the bypass west/southbound.  It is posted US 70A-79 and it appears the old 70A route is posted as TN 77.

Once the rest of it is finished, what will the old US 79 piece be numbered?  An extended TN 220?

Unfortunately this doesn't show how US 79 is currently signed - does it stay on the old route or use the new bypass and jog back?

Thanks for the reports. I reached out to TDOT for info on signage along old 79 and will make all the changes after they respond.
