Title: PA: PA 29 TRUCK (Macungie)
Post by: Markkos1992 on January 18, 2020, 03:18:26 pm
I am noting to myself that the weight-restricted bridge (https://www.penndot.gov/RegionalOffices/district-5/ConstructionsProjectsAndRoadwork/Pages/PA-29-Bridge-Replacement-Project.aspx) that this route exists for is currently under construction.  The project should be complete by October 2021 (https://gis.penndot.gov/paprojects/Reports/ProjectReport.aspx?ProjectID=11419&ReportType=UnderConstruction).

I drove through the construction area myself earlier this week. It wasn't there right at the beginning of the year the last time I'd been to that stretch of highway. I admit to some surprise that this project survived the last round of budget cuts, but I'm damn cynical about PA highway-related politics.

They have probably only done some prep work at this point since construction began on September 30, 2019.  The work will most likely fully commence in the Spring.

Completion of this project is still intended to be October 2021. (https://www.penndot.gov/RegionalOffices/district-5/pages/details.aspx?newsid=2739)

The PA 29 construction is underway for realsies! The bridge is closed and DETOUR PA 29 signs are up all over the place. Sometimes confusingly so. The official truck detour is the same as what's signed as PA 29 Truck. The car detour cuts mileage off that by using Brookside Rd, which involves a low height railroad overpass unsuitable for truck traffic. Nevertheless I saw a truck try to get under that bridge yesterday. Thankfully it stopped before making contact, and backed up into a parking lot.

Disaster averted there for sure.

EDIT: Added points at Ramer Rd (RamRd) and Allen St (AllSt) nearby to account for the relocation (https://github.com/TravelMapping/HighwayData/pull/4747).

The new bridge is open as of yesterday, but signage there still implies that trucks should continue to use the truck route as the project continues.  I will hold off on deleting PA 29 TRUCK (Macungie) for now.

Confirmed. The "Detour" signs are all down, but the "Alternate"/"Truck" signs remain as of today.

The project is complete as of 10/27/2021 so I am in the process of deleting the Truck Route and fixing the relevant labels.  Updated locally.

Done in https://github.com/TravelMapping/HighwayData/pull/5290

The project is marked as complete, but as of 8 December 2021 all the "Alternate"/"Truck" signs remain in place. Go figure.

I saw that there were still US 209 TRUCK shields on PA 115 at PA 903 a few months ago so I guess District 5 is just not making a priority to remove them.  (maybe the same with District 9 based on what I saw with PA 867 TRUCK (Roaring Spring) though they told me via email that they plan to remove the shields)
