Post by: Markkos1992 on February 03, 2021, 03:31:23 pm
Right now this route is still supposed to be open by the fall of 2021.

Nice. Looks like maybe CecReiRd could be placed on PA50 now?

Actually the road name is South Fayette Way here so FayWay is the label.  (https://github.com/TravelMapping/HighwayData/pull/4533)

I went ahead and also unhid FortCheRd on PA 980 as the PA Turnpike states that, "The permanent traffic pattern has been
enacted."

Yet, not all the movements will be open @ I-79 till 2022.

Quote
The Southern Beltway will be open to traffic in the Fall of 2021 with restrictions at I-79. Northbound I-79 traffic will be able to head west on the Southern Beltway and eastbound traffic on the Southern Beltway will be able to head south on I-79. All connections to and from I-79 will be open in 2022.

If I have to make a guess, then we will have to update 576 in two stages (To Exit #18 I-79, then to Exit #19 Morganza Road). Since if you can only go from EB PA-576 to SB I-79, & the ramps to Exit 19 also include the EB PA-576 to I-79 NB movement, the moment to Morganza Road road will open in 2022 as well.

This image shows the I-79/Morganza Rd interchange much better. (https://www.patpconstruction.com/southern_beltway/images/55c2-1/Overall%20Exhibit%20250.pdf)  I presume we will want the end point where the ramps to Morganza Rd split from the ramps to/from I-79 NB.

I think we'll still want '19' right @ Morganza Road due to the ramps to NB I-79 still getting the #18B number (and can be considered as 1PPI with the other ramps for I-79), while Morganza gets #19.

Also, don't know what they are thinking making that a left-on merge from I-79 NB to PA-576 WB when they extend the highway in the future.  Maybe it will have a divider in the future to prevent idiots from dive-bombing the #18B ramp to I-79 NB in case there's a backup on I-79 itself and they want to try to bypass it.

re 1PPI, this looks like a case of 2 (partially overlapping?) interchanges to my eyes

re 1PPI, this looks like a case of 2 (partially overlapping?) interchanges to my eyes

Yes, it does look like that, but Markkos1992 thought the Exit 18 ramps that sorta overlap the Exit 19 justified a possible centered point for both of them combined.  That's why I mentioned the 1PPI think for the I-79 ramps.  They should all be together @ the overpass and the Exit 19 ramps should be a completely separate point (especially due to future extension of the route hopefully) @ Morganza Road.

So that we can visualize this, I put the below in the WP Editor.

18 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=40.319937&lon=-80.146809
19 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=40.305156&lon=-80.150907

18 is centered at the planned I-79/PA 576 interchange with 19 at Morganza Rd.  I believe that this is what we utimately want.  The question now would be whether to extend to 19 originally, extend to 19 at first with a closed point, or extend it in two parts (18 first then 19 second).  Personally, I would consider the road clinched either way if taking the I-79 NB to PA 576 NB movement.

What I was thinking originally for a more temporary solution was the below version that would have two points at I-79.

18 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=40.319937&lon=-80.146809
19 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=40.309214&lon=-80.150285
18A http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=40.307709&lon=-80.158010

18A http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=40.307709&lon=-80.158010

I agree with the first visualization

And yeah, that 'temp' idea, I don't think would have flied personally.

Yeah, all the movements from that part of the I-79 interchange enter/exit PA 576 at the same spots as the Morganza Road ramps (OSM shows one running parallel through the rest of the interchange, presumably to keep people from cutting across the road until past the other ramps; this would seem to be the reverse of the I-77/I-64 interchange in Beckley).

Current plan is still for this road to open in October 2021.  Note that I plan to extend this to 19 as shown in the first visualization above when the road opens to I-79.  It seems to be the best solution to me.

This is going to be fun.  Pictures there show that going WB on PA-TPK-576, the I-79 exit is split into 18 (SB I-79) & 19 (NB I-79).

From what I am seeing, the Exit 19 designation for I-79 NB on PA 576 WB may have to do with how it is planned to be signed EB at the Morganza Rd interchange.

Did anyone see any signage for the I-79 NB/Morganza Rd interchange installed yet?

EDIT (10-14-2021):  I am planning to go 18 at I-79 and 19 at Morganza Rd unless I see evidence that I should do something different.

I went on it this morning after it opened eastbound (counterclockwise).  There are signs covered up at the I-79 interchange that I assume will be for Exit 19 (I-79 N/Morganza Road) in line with the map on the project site since all other relevant signs appear to be uncovered.

I didn’t get the chance to ride in the other direction (I-79 N to PA 576 W toward the airport), but it looked like crews were getting ready to open the exit not long after I went through.  All other interchanges along the Beltway appeared to be fully open.

Updates made locally.  I am looking to find clarification on the I-79 Exit Number before proceeding with the pull request.

The only signs I am waiting to see photographed.  I had hope for a second when I saw you were posting...

I am going to go back through there in a little bit (I live a few minutes away), so I’ll report back.

The exit number on I-79 north is 49.  Any signs for the unopened movements are still covered up.

UPDATE: The first picture in the gallery with this article shows I-79 North signed as Exit 19.

I’m uploading some dash cam footage tonight that I can share on the forum, in which I also learned that I need to wash my windshield after some clinching earlier in the week in northern PA.

Thank you.  The pull request has been submitted (https://github.com/TravelMapping/HighwayData/pull/5220).

I placed two points (49 and 49A) since the interchange is so huge.

EDIT:  I also clarified the 49 number via video. (https://youtu.be/nWvn0-LS1MY?t=80)
