Title: BC: A few Lower Mainland routes
Post by: Bruce on August 13, 2021, 07:59:33 pm
Wondering why we don't have 1A/99A and 7A in TM? They all appear to be decently signed through the area:

1A/99A at the Viaduct (https://goo.gl/maps/ZLH5Y5Ns8yexRHhL7), Boundary Road (https://goo.gl/maps/jh4NNSzCeYGS7HJTA), in New West (https://goo.gl/maps/8d3ZGzEyhsfSEwrK6), and the Patullo Bridge ramp (https://goo.gl/maps/XYtWnJSUXggXvLyY6)

7A in Port Moody (https://goo.gl/maps/wUnJJ9FTZyzjxR14A), though signage through Vancouver seems sparse

Bruce, thank you for your post with helpful GMSV links.

The official list of BC routes (https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/transportation/transportation-reports-and-reference/reference-information/numbered-routes) doesn't include 7A or 99A anywhere. It does show two 1As, but neither seems to match up with the signage you found.

The list is more than two years old, so it's possible these are newly designated routes. Or maybe they are old routes that've been decommissioned, but the old signage persists. I'll try to resolve these mysteries later.

The long "Completed Highways Systems" thread on the canbc system (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?topic=82.0) may answer some of these questions, as well as point to additional official sources. So might this Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_Columbia_provincial_highways#Route_list).

Huh, I guess BC is just slacking on sign removals and OSM hasn't been updated properly. Thanks for the answers.

^ I'm not settling for the official BC numbered highways list, still have more digging into other sources. Just no time for me to do that tonight.

All 3 of these appear on their official 1996 list, so it appears they were removed sometime afterwards.  They are definitely not new routes - they were all posted when I was there in 2014.

Reviving this topic for something I observed in the field a few days ago: the Langley Bypass seems to carry BC 1A all the way around the city, unlike how TM marks it as staying on the Fraser Highway. This doesn't match up with the Kilometre Inventory, however, which is consistent with the current TM version.

It has a concurrency with BC 10 from Willowbrook to Kwantlen Polytechnic and then rejoins the Fraser Highway to the south.
