VA 407 and 408
« on: August 14, 2021, 04:07:29 pm »
This sign (https://www.google.com/maps/@36.8425183,-76.0205469,3a,75y,295.28h,86.24t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sI8iB_o7KnlTj_VGBhNslGA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 ) is still there. I'm guessing it's a leftover?

On the other hand, there's new BGSes at the completed free-flow intersection of VA 190 (Kempsville Rd) and Indian River Rd. indicating VA 407 goes both directions. The HB shows the eastern end of 407 at the Virginia Beach city limit. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a photo (and GMSV is 2 years old, most recently showing the construction zone at that intersection), nor did I have time to explore Indian River in either direction.

Incidentally, Virginia Beach is just AWFUL at signing any of its numbered routes. For example, which way does US 58 go east of the traffic circle? I was actually surprised to see an END US 60 sign, considering I never saw ANY US 60 signs south of 58.

Were these BGSes on VA 190?  I did not remember seeing VA 407 shields coming into the intersection via Indian River Rd eastbound when I drove this back in January.

Yes. Both NB and SB VA 190 had signs indicating East/West 407.

Certainly erroneous to be posting 4xx routes in Virginia Beach, which were decommissioned 20 years ago.

See this thread from aa forum - https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=15069.msg2051717#msg2051717

The VA 414 shields are still up as of 2019 GMSV...

The VA 408 shield in the OP of this TM thread is not leftover.  Installed at some point after decommissioning.  I don't recall even a circle 408 shield there, though there was still a white border SR 615 shield there in the early 90s.

I did not realize that VA 414 was posted at all.  I have never seen any signs on the former route itself.

Proof that VA 407 is now posted from VA 190.  (photo taken April 28, 2022)
