« on: June 30, 2021, 03:44:27 pm »
System is in preview and seems to be ready for peer-review: https://travelmapping.net/hb/index.php?sys=nplh
The system has 24 routes for more than 2,100 miles.

Please report issues here.

Cursory glance:
H01 and AH 2: pull IND/NPL back to http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.644611&lon=88.162537, as OSM and Google agree on the border here, and where I have the terminal point for NH 327B and AH 2 on the West Bengal side.
Western end is a mess because the route physically into India and back, and both OSM and Google are in agreement on the border here.

Recenter NPL/IND to http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.993098&lon=80.122151

New .wpts - indut.nplh001.wpt? ; indut.ah002npl.wpt : NPL/IND http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.993098&lon=80.122151
+x1 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.992723&lon=80.121931
IND/NPL http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.992247&lon=80.121851

New .wpts - npl.h001ind.wpt ; npl.ah002utt.wpt : IND/NPL http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.992247&lon=80.121851
+x1 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.991796&lon=80.122105
NPL/IND http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.991691&lon=80.121650
Nepal H01
India H01 Nepal
Nepal H01 India (not confusing at all...)

[India AH 2 West Bengal]
Nepal AH 2
India AH 2 Nepal
Nepal AH 2 Uttarkhand
[India AH 2 Uttarkhand]

H02: Recenter the NPL/IND point onto the borderline (will help when I draft NH 527D). Add a shapepoint at the curve just east of there so the traceline doesn't cross into India and back.

H03: NPL/CHN needs to be recentered, as well as a few shapepoints -- one shapepoint is in China and not on H03.

H04, 05, 13, 18, 18Ghu: Without more than a cursory glance, looks okay. However, if Nepal winds up being subdivided into states/provinces, shape points may be desired to avoid border hops.

H06: NPL/IND recenter

H08: NPL/IND recenter (NH 527). Point needed between India and H17? OSM shows an F62 at Biratngar [sic] Main Rd; Google shows this as Main Road (South).

H10: NPL/IND recenter (NH 24). Add point at Devdaha Marg in Tilottama.

H12: NPL/IND recenter (NH 927).

H14: NPL/IND recenter (UP 90). Recenter/add shape points to avoid border hops into Uttarkhand and possible trace crossings with NH 9. OSM also indicates that H14 extends further north than the END point?

H16: Add point at University Path.
NakRd -> F103
Add point at next major intersection (no name in OSM, Google shows Ekantakuna Rd)
Add point F72
Add point F90
SinRd -> SinMarg
PasMar -> PasSad
Add point Dhumbarahi Marg
Recenter F25
Add point Tokha Sadak (F82?)
Add point Balaju Machha Pokhari Bypass
Add point Siddhicharan Sadak
Add point Ropeway Sadak
Add point F75 (Museum Marg)

H17Dha: IND/NPL -> END no indication of a border crossing here either in OSM or Google. Shapepoints needed just east of H14 to avoid border skips into Uttar Pradesh.

I'll note this here in case the F routes get drafted at some point for the eastern end of F38: Its terminal point is WB 12 as WB 12 physically crosses into Nepal.

You can go ahead. My aim at the time was making sure the crossings into India were good, and I never got to finishing the rest of the review.

Initial look.

AH42:
Is fucked up through Kathmandu, incorrect order b/n H02/H16 and H03/H16

H01:
The route does NOT entirely cross the border line on OSM nor GM. I'd merge IND-UT H01 and NPL H01Ind into the main route (concurrent AH2 too). I don't understand Bickendan's text upthread on this.

H02:
wikipedia map on the right, GM (name, not number) and OSM indicate the route through Birgunj, not via the bypass
North end in Kathmandu is also different to what we have in HB. Did you have another source? If not, truncate it.

H03:
Same here. West end in Kathmandu is different on OSM, GM and wikipedia. None confirms the HB end.

H06:
Does it really extend south of Bardibas as OSM, Esri and Jawg suggest? GM, Here and EN wikipedia do not confirm it. However, Germans do :D

H12/H13:
The transition is in Bangesimal according to OSM, Jwag and wikipedia map. The HB transition in Birendranagar is confirmed by GM and wikipedia text though. The 113km length of H12 from wikipedia suggests the transition in Bangesimal. The 232km for H13 also matches.
Based on the 232km H13 length, the northern end should be in Chandannath, not at the airport.

H15:
East end should be north of the bridge

H17:
Is completed since November 2020: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postal_Highway Please update the route

H18:
East end should be at http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.268482&lon=88.030776 (Chiyo Bhanjyang, border to India) according to OSM and wikipedia.

The two western routes are not yet connected but the gap seems to be smaller now:
H18Man extends to http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.758720&lon=82.005901 according to OSM
H18 does not extent but another H18 route seems to start just west of the river from http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.625926&lon=82.173907 to http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.715944&lon=82.062190

I'll continue the review once this will be checked.

Note: The first expressway is scheduled to be opened in 2024 now. I don't know if it should be H20 or E20.

Looks like the mapping fidelity was tightened since I made my comments a year ago. Wish the same had happened in West Bengal for the IND sets.

General note: GM has a leading zero for 1-digit-F and H roads. OSM only has the zero for H roads. We currently go with OSM. I'm not sure what's the best (google does not help much) but I tend to add the leading zero for F roads.

H01:
Kan -> Kak for Kakarbhitta, It's sometimes Kankarbhitta on google (maps) but redirected to Kakarbhitta.
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.659766&lon=88.100696 for Dhulabari
Add a third wp for Mechinagar (111,000 inhabitants and last city in front of the border) in-between.
H07 is off
F61 -> F61_N
Add wp for F61_S just west of F61_N
F62 is slightly off
Move H08 to the center of the roundabout
Replace Jhu by F56 wp just to the east? Or KhaRd if you don't trust OSM on the F road name
F54 is not confirmed by OSM nor GM -> DhuRd?
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.523851&lon=86.957109 for Bantabari
Move F3 to http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.551689&lon=86.883059 ? This F3 branch looks more major and GM only indicates this branch as F03. Minimum, the wp should be moved to the mainline of H01.
Bak is off
F05 is off
F05 is only indicated on GM but not on OSM. Since there is another F5 to the west on OSM (and in HB) but not indicated on GM. The latter looks more major. I guess that GM is wrong? Rename to Kus for Kushaba?
F52 is off
Bad is bad, er, off ;)
F107 is off
H06_S is off. OSM suggests a roundabout but it's not. The wp should be positioned at http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.929208&lon=85.955146
F116 is slightly off
F6 is off
+X719493 is off and should be replaced by a visible wp. Nijgadh has almost 20,000 inhabitants
F118 is off
+X740383 is off
Move H02_S to the center of the roundabout
Ama -> Aml for Amlekhganj
MadMarg -> I see the small Madan Marg street to the east but I'm not sure that it extends to H01. The major Hetauda - Phaparban Rd is also only indicated to the Madan Marg end only but it might be the better choice. The shops around have no street name. OSM indicates "Hetauda Industrial Area", the wp label could be HIA?
Replace KriRd by a wp for more mojor Golphintar to the east?
DeuKot is off
DeuKot is called Way to Dev Kot on OSM (looks self-made, GM has no street name) and the village is called Deukot on OSM and GM. I'd rename the label to Sim for Simpani
KhaGha is off
OldHwy -> OldEWHwy but do we need the wp at all? The other end of the road has no wp and it's not needed for shaping
MadiTho -> H17, see subsequently!
H05 is slightly off
Amar is off
Cho is off
Between Cho and F8: Some shaping points are off, and the road exceeds the limits
F8 is off
F130 is off
F9 is off
KhaCho -> KhaChok
Sem -> Tam
F135 is off
F10 is off
+X221729 is off
Add new F11_S wp
F11 -> F11_N
Pip is off
F138 is off
F15 is slightly off
Rih should be moved to Rih (to the west) or renamed to Pai for Paite
H11 is off
Bas -> Ban?
+X727764 is off
+X533368 is off
Bhu -> F16 as suggested by OSM?
+X718284 is off
Move Cha to a junction
F151 is off
Do we need +x0 and +x1?
Add a wp in the border village instead, the border crossing is called Kanchanpur, so wp label Kan?
please add more wps for major towns
e.g.
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.627822&lon=81.152540 for 76,000 people in Lamki Chuha
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.645139&lon=84.128787 for 62,000 people in Kawasoti
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.053603&lon=85.632125 for 67,000 people in Lalbandi
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.659943&lon=87.697710 for 107,000 people in Damak
We could generally replace more shaping points by visible wps. I guess that OSM indicates more town names than back in

H17:
Add another route from H01's MadiTho at http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.671138&lon=84.435596 to http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.418976&lon=84.451089 as indicated on OSM
H17Brg extends to http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.190651&lon=84.726557 on Esri WorldImagery which has a cut here :( Google Satellite has an extension and "almost" meets the OSM end of the line before. I guess we need to wait for updated maps though?
btw: You could have told me that I misread wikipedia. The road is not yet completed: "57% of construction of the road has been completed until November 2020"

General remark: Marg seems to be Nepali for Road. 13 wps have Marg, 51 Rd. I suggest replacing Marg by Rd:

Remove +X351032

F19 is off
NamSad -> Nam? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namtar,_Nepal
Dan is off
Dan is Palung Sadak according to GM
Kuk is off
Kun is F20 on OSM

+X656199 is off
+X971215 is off
F105 is slightly off

H3:
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.686255&lon=85.344678
H16_N: Check satellite view. H3 seems to be the main line, I'd move wp to http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.684773&lon=85.348207
Add wps for all secondary highways between F86_W and F86_E (Madhyapur Thimi has 83,000 inhabitants and deserves more than just one wp)
H06 is off
+X826516 is off
Dol_E is off
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.654469&lon=85.708720
Move Suk to where OSM has the junction
Replace +X434737 by visilbe wp at http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.732712&lon=85.780000 for Balephi
Move Jure to the bridge
Move Bah to a more major junction to the south
Remove +X689407 because we don't have a rule that the graph is not allowed to cross the border. If you'd like to have such a rule, try to start the implementation in Israel first ;)

H04:
Exceeds limits between H05 and KhaGorHwy
Add wps for the primary and secondary highways between H10 and F163, e.g. we don't have a wp for the international airport right now
MilMar -> MilMarg -> MilRd
KhaGorHwy -> F35?
H05 seems to be slightly off
Replace +X963225 by a visible wp for the cable car station which seems to be a tourist attraction
+X869871 is off
F161_N -> F161_S -> F161
Bar is off

H05:
F126 -> F37/F126 ?

H06:
Add wp for the 35,000 inhabitants of Pipra
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.555122&lon=85.645611
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.538666&lon=85.654730
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.099983&lon=85.962345 (I think it's a new bridge for F57, replacing F57_E?)
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.736086&lon=85.918880
Move H17_E to the roundabout
Rak is off

H07:
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.387432&lon=87.997653 for Kechana
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.407282&lon=88.010313 for Suknadigi Marg
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.447708&lon=88.070220 for Prithvinagar

Routing in Bhadrapur:
wikipedia indicates that the route ends in Kechana, but their map indicates it ending at the border crossing in Bhadrapur.
OSM indicates - as so often - both. GM does not have a branch to the border in Bhadrapur.
However, there is a different routing from the point where the route branches off, from BirChaRd to the north!
GM (and our current HB routing) indicate the eastern route, OSM + wikipedia the western route.
OSM has "recent" changes, so I guess that going with OSM would be the best choice: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/52014114/history
It would require renaming BirChaRd and adding two wps west and east of the airport, and another one for the airport itself

F59 is slightly off
+X166872 is off
F38 is really off
MahMarg is off -> MahRd
+X140760 is off
F58 is off

H08:
Dha is off, we could move it to http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.975398&lon=87.342690 and call it TunRd
+X783492 is off
+X132441 is off
Bhe is off, and OSM indicates F58 there
F57 is off
Replace +X538708 by visible wp at http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.795263&lon=87.290376 (Dharan's 173k inhabitants deserve a 3rd wp)
Itahari's 198k inhabitants also deserve more than just one wp, GM indicates some street names
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.509446&lon=87.282026
KanKesMar -> NobHospRd
Add wp(s) between F62 and the border to make clear that the eastern route is the right one.

H09:
F57_W is slightly off
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=26.890098&lon=86.736985 for Khanbu to break the 39 miles without visible wps

H10:
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.517516&lon=83.453597 (Budda Chok? / Lumbini Road like the bus stop?)
Please add wps for OSM's primary and secondary highways just as much as possible, and for Pokhara Airport!
F44/F130 is off
F167_W is off
F131 is off
GalBaz -> Chapakot Highway?
DR014 It is the only wp in Nepal using DR numbering. I'd rename it to TriManRd
DamSideMar -> DamSideMarg --> DamSideRd

Remaining labels using Mar (likely instead of Marg which should be Rd), please check:

Tulsipur's 180k inhabitants deserve more than just one wp. Minimum, add one for the airport, please.
+X184106 is off
Move Ram to the junction
Kha -> F140?
+X603301 is off
+X809233 is off
+X253670 is off and might be replaced by a visible wp for Rakshyachaur
+X504427 is off and might be replaced by a visible wp for Haripauri

H13:
Quote
Based on the 232km H13 length, the northern end should be in Chandannath, not at the airport.
What's the reason that you don't agree?

Move Lit to a junction
+X229345 is far off
+X814599 is off
+X912854 should be replaced by a visible wp for Manma
H18_W is far off
+X506521 is off
F182 is off
F144 is off

H14:
Exceeds limits b/n Rud and +X800807 (well, kinda....)
Add wp for Khalanga close to north end of the route
Add wp for Bramhadev close to north end of the route
+X821858 is off
Rud is off
Rud --> KatGajRd
Add another wp next to it for the Gokuleshwor airport
Bas is off, see satellite view
F50 is off
+X351519 is off
F175 is off
+X471832 is off
+X610671 is off
Too is off
Too -> Tup or Ama
Bag -> KhaRd or better move it to the next junction southbound which is the more major Bagarkot Road
Move H15 to the center of the roundabout
+X481630 is off
Chh stands for Budar? --> Bud
Bud -> F151
F149 is off
GetaAir -> DhaAirRd or AirRd
Replace +X494501 by visible wp in Boradadi

H15:
Deu is off, OSM is wrong, go with Esri WorldImagery / GM
Deu -> Bha ?
Move BanSain to a junction (to the west)

H16:
Move F26 to the center of the roundabout
Add http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.657971&lon=85.322528 for F23
Add wps for the secondary highways where possible

H18:
Main route has a length of 111 miles but H18Ghu is 217 miles long. Please change route / file names. Both have no travelers so far.

I'll review H17+H18 when this is implemented because I already mentioned them upthread and don't want to confuse too much.
