NC: US 70 Further Point Concerns
« on: March 24, 2021, 09:29:29 pm »
1.   US25_E should be US25_S.
2.   ColSt_E should be ColSt_W.  (also affects US 74 ALT (Asheville))
3.   US74Alt should be US74Alt_E.
4.   A point should be added at Jims Branch Rd (JimsBraRd) to keep the line north of I-40.
5.   A point should be added at Warren Wilson College Rd (WarWilRd) for access to Warren Wilson College.
6.   The shaping point east of PatCoveRd should be made visible as Old Little Cove Rd. (Also I-40 to the south needs a shaping point to keep the line south of US 70.)
7.   A point should be added at Greenlee Rd (GreRd_W) due to directly connecting to I-40.  Adding GreRd_E and Clear Creek Rd (CleCreRd) should help with shaping.
8.   MemPkRd should be MemParkRd.
9.   I am surprised not to see a “TO I-40” shield at Stacey Hill Rd (StaHillRd).
10.   GeoDr would be better served at WatRd (Watson Rd).
11.   A point should be added at Bridgewater Rd (BriRd) due to accessing Lake James State Park.
12.   KelRd should be KatRd (Kathy Rd).
13.   US70BusMor should be slightly recentered.
14.   The shaping point east of US70BusMor should be replaced by a visible point at Zion Rd.
15.   A point should be added at Carolina St (CarSt_W) due to directly connecting to I-40.
16.   Curleys Fish Camp Rd does connect directly to the ramps at I-40 oddly enough.
17.   A point should be added at I-40 Access Rd due to directly connecting to I-40.
18.   US321 should be slightly recentered.  (also affects US 321 BUS (Conover, NC))
19.   NC127 should be CenSt_Hic. (also affects US 321 BUS (Conover, NC))
20.   McDPky should be McDPkwy. (also affects US 321 BUS (Conover, NC))
21.   US321Bus should be US321Bus_S.
22.   I think that adding McLin Creek Rd (McLCreRd) would help the shaping a bit.
23.   SigRidDr should be made hidden.
24.   Shaping between ShaSchRd and OldMtnRd can be greatly improved with points at Eufola Rd (EufRd) and Dagenhart Farm Rd (DagFarmRd).
25.   SR1793 should be Third Creek Church Rd.
26.   The route almost goes out of tolerance at Amity Hill Rd (AmiHillRd).
27.   NC150Sal should be just NC150.
28.   BudKanRd should be slightly recentered.  (also affects I-85BL (Lexington) and US 29)
29.   I recommend keeping MainSt_Hig for now since NC 68 has a MainSt.  We can clarify any duplicate label errors after US 70 is rerouted onto NC 68 and Wendover Ave.
30.   I think that the shaping point east of MHChuRd should be replaced with a visible point at Birch Creek Rd (BirCreRd).
31.   HuffMillRd should be HufMillRd.
32.   I would add Efland Cedar Grove Rd for indirectly connecting to I-40/I-85(Exit 160).  I am surprised that this does not get the shield treatment here.
33.   Theoretically US70BusHil_E should be slightly recentered.
34.   MiaBlvd should be MiaBlvd_S.
35.   WadeAve should be WadeAve_W.  (also affects NC 50)
36.   The shaping point east of Princeton should be replaced with a visible point at Luby Smith Rd (LubySmiRd).
37.   US117Bus_N should just be US117Bus.  Unlike US 13 and US 117, US 70 only intersects US 117 BUS (Goldsboro).
38.   BestRd should be CuyBestRd (Cuyler Best Rd).  (also affects US 13 and NC 111)
39.   WWasSt should be for Piney Grove Church Rd.
40.   EWasSt should be WasSt.
41.   I would add a point at Barwick Station Rd (BarStaRd) to help out with the shaping in the area.
42.   US258 should be US258_N.
43.   NC58 should be NC58_S.
44.   I would add a point at Tilghman Rd (TilRd) to help out with the shaping in the area.
45.   OldUS70_Dov should be DovRd (Dover Rd).
46.   PinGroRd should be PineGroRd.
47.   I still think that the NC 101 labels should be switched even with them both being in-use.  Maybe the best solution here is to just use the town names (so NC101_Hav and NC101_Bea).
48.   The shaping point northwest of NC 24 should be replaced with a visible point at McCabe Rd (McCRd).
49.   NC58Atl should be AtlBeaBri.  (Many routes around Pittsburgh have points like this.)
50.   I would add Hill Rd (by Eastern Park) to help with shaping just past MarRd.
51.   I think that EmiLn should be made hidden with a visible point at Stacy Loop Rd to the south to have one in this area.
52.   I would consider making NelBayRd hidden.
53.   The NC12 point should be slightly recentered.
54.   I would replace the shaping point east of NC 12 with a visible point at Nelson Neck Rd (NelNeckRd).
55.  Unused alternate labels that can be removed are the following: 310 BUFRD CLARD GEERST GLORD GRENEERD I-85(33A) I-85BUS(35AB) I-85BUS(36A) LUMRD NC43 NC47 NC55_W QUAST RANRD SALRD SPOTAWNRD TWALEBLVD US25BUS/70BUS_E US70BUSLEX WALDRV WASST WAYMEMDRV WBEARD

Also after looking at the US 70 Categorical Exclusion for the upgrading to interstate standards in eastern Johnston County, a point should also be added at Swift Creek Rd (SwiCreRd) as the contract has been awarded.

Quote
The proposed project involves upgrading US 70 to a freeway from US 70 Business to the Neuse River in Johnston County. The project will construct interchanges at the intersections of US 70 with SR 1501 (Swift Creek Road) and SR 1903 (Wilson’s Mills Road).  The project will close the remaining at-grade intersections and median openings that  provide direct access to US 70 from adjacent properties. Access to properties adjacent to US 70 will be provided via newly constructed service roads. Figure 1 shows the project location.

What can I say?  We love naming bridges here.  8)

changes made.

I left NC 101 alone because the Havelock Bypass may solve the problem by itself if US 70 becomes US 70 Bus.

15.   A point should be added at Carolina St (CarSt_W) due to directly connecting to I-40.

I am not sure why I put CarSt_W instead of just CarSt.

19.   NC127 should be CenSt_Hic. (also affects US 321 BUS (Conover, NC))

This could just be CenSt on US 321 BUS (Conover, NC).  Also EMaiRd and WMainSt on US 321 BUS should be relabeled.

EDIT:

17.   A point should be added at I-40 Access Rd due to directly connecting to I-40.

I40AccRd>-I-40AccRd to eliminate the "INTERSTATE_NO_HYPHEN" datacheck error.

Just posting this as a FYI, nothing needs to be done at this time.

Yesterday I rode with my parents along US 70 BUS (Durham)/NC 98, and signage still indicates that US 70 BUS still leaves NC 98 at the current location instead of following it to US 70/Future I-885.

I am unsure when work beyond the East End Connector may be complete.  The NC 98 interchange still seems to need a lot of work done even though it is at least in its final configuration I think.

Update on this:  I did find a US 70 BUS WB shield on the US 70 WB off-ramp to NC 98 during a Mileage Mike video covering this area (see 29:05).

I am uncertain on whether we should relocate US 70 BUS (Durham) yet (hence why I post it here instead of a new thread).
