FL: FLTpk service plazas
« on: October 26, 2024, 05:37:13 am »
Does anybody know if you can 'legally' U-Turn at them?

I mean, looking @ the Okahumpka Service Plaza one (between exits 296 & 304), it would be legal to U-Turn SB to go NB, as there's no toll booths at the exits north of there.  However, if you were to try to do it going NB from exit 296 & return and exit @ 296, you'd encounter toll booths both ways.  Would you get a toll both directions, or would you enter some quirky confusion loop with the tolls?

Please be advised that U-Turns on Florida’s Turnpike System are only permitted at service plazas, located approximately every 40 miles. Drivers who attempt to make U-Turns at emergency vehicle turnarounds could be subject to traffic citations.

Back in ticket days there were special U-turn rates if you got it stamped.

(c) Exit of Vehicle at Point of Entry. The operator of a vehicle on the Florida Turnpike System who presents a toll ticket for payment to a toll collector at the same toll station at which such toll ticket was issued, shall be charged the toll for the appropriate vehicle classification from the most distant toll station on the Florida Turnpike System. Disabled vehicles on the Florida Turnpike System and service vehicles providing such towing shall not be charged a toll if it is necessary under these regulations for the particular vehicle to leave the Florida Turnpike System at the same toll station at which it entered. Operators of vehicles authorized to make U turns at service areas are excepted from the provisions of this regulation. In order to make an authorized U-turn the operator shall have his toll ticket stamped at the service area when returning to his/her original point of entry, and shall be charged rates indicated in italics as U-turn Rates.

Alright.  I'll get the service plazas added to the file in the next few days then. :)
