IL: IL-53 southern terminus

(1/2) > >>

I don't know if I'd call this an immediate change, rather a discussion, but I clinched IL-53 over the weekend and took this photo of the southern END marker.

...or at least, I thought I had clinched IL-53. When I went to log my route on TM, I noticed IL-53 supposedly connects back to I-55 directly, just slightly west of the intersection in the photo. Out in the field, there is no indication that IL-53 connects to I-55. Is there official documentation that says otherwise? Was this just implied because it's still maintained by IDOT? Am I splitting hairs over nothing? (Probably. But it bugs me since I actually didn't drive this tiny segment back to I-55!)

Take a look at some Street Views from the ramps and this intersection just east of I-55. Personally, I think it should be truncated to this intersection, with that very last southern (technically, western here) segment removed.

The strangest part to me is that I couldn't find any IL 53 signs on the ramps for an exit signed for IL 53. This does seem like a reasonable change.

The exit on I-55 is signed for IL-53, and has been since at least 2007 per StreetView, but I do see what you're talking about with no signage on the ramps themselves.

END shield at that location has been present since at least Nov '08 per StreetView.

Anyways, depending on what is decided, there are some other fixes that could be done on IL-53 in that area no matter what.

Both hidden points '+X01' & '+X02' are literately right on top of intersections.  Might want to convert them to be usable points. ;)

There's also this sign on southbound Old 66 bypass that doesn't have an arrow for 53 pointing to I-55. So you're probably right that 53 should end at this intersection.

I was going to check the Grundy County IL map but, despite the date of 2015, it still has not only IL 129 on the map at Gardner but US 66 south of it! So it's not totally reliable.

Semi-vaguely-related: The north end of IL 129 is now a northbound-only exit/entrance at I-55. There WAS a southbound left exit, but sometime after 2008 that exit was removed, most likely to avoid replacing the bridge, but the concrete pillars remain to this day!

There was also a NB left too for a U-Turn movement per StreetView.  :o
