Title: FL: FL 404
Post by: Jim on July 02, 2022, 07:33:34 pm
I wish I paid closer attention and took more pictures, but didn't realize FL 404 in TM does not extend to I-95.  I am pretty sure it was signed as FL 404 from I-95 NB and was signed right away as "East FL 404, To US 1".  But I am not absolutely sure if the first of those signs was right away or a little way east.

This keeps coming up.

GIS dated 04/30/22 doesn't acknowledge any extension beyond the end of the ramps to/from on the western side of US-1.

I'm under the impression that the BGS's on I-95 are lacking the 'TO' banner.  Also: https://goo.gl/maps/SfbV8w7vL858LLdX8 (from April '21)  Everything going WB is just 'TO I-95' shields.

I only took it to Wickham Road due to signage @ the US-1 interchange, and the first EB shield just after the intersection with Wickham Road (which includes EB JCT shields, but no WB JCT shields on Wickham itself).

So maybe nothing's changed.  But a quick look at street view shows a To US 1, East FL 404 combo (either the one, or another just like the one, I have a photo of on my camera from this morning) not far east of the I-95 interchange and definitely well west of our current TM endpoint.  Seems like that would usually be enough to include it, or is that just for places where we don't have reliable government documentation to go on over signs?

I see said signage that you reference.

However, less than 0.3 miles from that (and still before the signage I linked to in the other post), there's another set of signs with the 'TO' above the EB FL-404 shield.  https://goo.gl/maps/zKDUnjeeYpcZAiddA

To me, that means the first one is lacking the 'TO' banner.  Especially since there's 0 signage going WB along the road for FL-404, and only 'TO I-95' shields.

Unless this is all completely changed, I'm going to believe that OSM & Google are both in the wrong here (especially because of FDOT's GIS not showing it along this route), unless somebody can get me proof beyond that 'rouge' first assembly (that IMO is missing the 'TO' signage) has changed.  If somebody came to me with WB signage beyond Wickham Road (either replacing the 'TO I-95' signs, or being added beside them), that would be the first proof IMO that something is changing and might finally warrant FL-404 being extended to I-95.  Till then, I'm keeping the western end @ Wickham Road.

I'm ok with leaving it, but I can say that as a traveler with a way above typical awareness of these kinds of things, I was 100% sure I was on FL 404 based on signs I saw.

It also seems odd that the road out to I-95 doesn't get a well-signed CR 404, as seems to be the case with most FL routes that end in arbitrary places like this.

I'd say it's quite appropriate actually - county route shield not found.  ;)

It's not even a county route according to the FDOT GIS County Route data.

In fact, there is a CR-404 there, but this is the route per FDOT: https://goo.gl/maps/RfhdFDF2cXohSkMT7

Just took another look at this area (now with Sept '22 imagery), and there's no change with the signage.

Still 'TO FL-404' going EB, and 'TO I-95' going WB.

Thus, no-build here, and marking as solved.

Is it possible that someone decided the state maintained portion at the I-95 interchange is SR 404, hence the signs on I-95 and the first reassurance?

Possible, but I don't recall ever seeing a small 'SR 404' show up in the GIS @ I-95.  So, who knows to be honest.
