Re: WI: Multiple broken concurrencies in SW Wisconsin
« Reply #16 on: June 07, 2021, 03:40:33 pm »
What appears to have been a well-intentioned update to a couple state routes in WI has created a broken concurrency nightmare in this area. There appear to be a similar problem in Richland County with US14 and WI60. Given the widespread nature caused by these recent point additions, I suspect there might be other broken concurrencies.

My apologies in advance if these concurrency issues were intended to be fixed on a subsequent update. I went in to correct a new log error caused by the recent changes and discovered quite a bit more problems than I anticipated.
Yes, things are going to be broken all over the place. I am trying to do these in shifts and hope that each set will either resolve known issues or present themselves for cleanup later.

I am sending the Madison beltline today. Because both US 14 and US 151 intersect US 61, that route will have to come too, along with WI 35. There will be a point where I say, OK, now please tell me what else has cropped up, and then that'll probably take a bit to fix.

I think that it is quite simple to avoid breaking concurrencies. You can easily identify concurrent routes in HB (showroute.php) by clicking on wps you want to change, or select "visible routes" = "color by concurrencies" option on mapview.php

And straighten out the removing of all of these new unused alternate labels.   ;D   In all seriousness, handling the Highway63 files this time around, I did that on US 61 and WI 35 mainly because of an issue with updating WI 35.

EDIT:  Changes to US 12, US 14, US 18, US 61, WI 16, WI 19, WI 56, and WI 78 are included in Highway63's latest update (https://github.com/TravelMapping/HighwayData/pull/4872).

I have no idea what that I-90 point issue is supposed to mean. It's an interstate, there is no hidden junction. I could resend to make sure it and I-94 match.

I have not sent US 10 yet, so that may explain that issue.

I-90 exit 85 doesn't match I-94's 85(90) point. Presumably the I-94 point has been improved (meets the surface routes, positioned centred where the centrelines cross), but the I-90 one hasn't.

This has created a hidden junction error at the shaping point adjacent to exit 85. It's a junction according to the TM plotting of the routes, as routes diverge there. But it is a junction that is hidden from use by users as its not at a visible point. Thus 'hidden junction'.

PS I-94 exit 145, just west of I-90's western diverge is missing. This looks to be a newish junction.

It looks like the 1E points on US 41 and US 45 don't match up with the 1E points on I-41 and I-894, breaking the concurrency.

Also 39 on US 41 doesn't line up with the corresponding point on I-41, US 18, and US 45, breaking the concurrency.

I have been driving to the Quad Cities meet so I have not looked at this or the NC stuff beyond just looking at the thread.

The I-41 exit numbers in Green Bay do not match up with the US 41 ones.

I-41/US 41:  3.  I think you could make the case for a graph connection with WI 145 at 48A.  (keeping the current 48A as a hidden shaping point for mapping purposes)  WI 145 already has this point labeled as US41/45_S. (also affects US 45 and WI 100)

I presume that you did not favor a graph connection here.

On WI 29, 164B and 191(51) are not currently synced with US 51.  Also the shaping points between 108 and CRO_Cla need to be added to WI 73 to fix the broken concurrency.

Unrelated to previous posts, was WI 21 realigned west of I-41 at some point?  If so, the line looks like it follows that old alignment.

The I-41 and US 41 points should have matched now; I will check those again. US 51 is in the hopper; WI 29's points will be the new ones.

I did not.

WI 21: Unclear on this. Do you mean/think that a point should be added for the intersection of Omro Road and Oakwood Road to make clear 21 follows the bend in the road?

Yes, basically.

Current comments from 7/5/2021 Update:

US 51:
1.  CRDV_Dan should be *CRDV_Dan.  (marked as closed)
2.  The shaping point added along the WI 60 concurrency needs to be added to WI 60.
3.  The I-39 concurrency is broken between 131 and 136.
4.  The I-39/US 10 concurrency is broken between 159 and 161.  (should be done with US 10)

WI 47/WI 182:  This concurrency is broken.

In addition, the concurrency between US12 and WI120 seems to be broken at the 328 point on US12.
