GA: Rerouting of GA 72 between Comer and Carlton
« on: December 06, 2020, 08:35:44 pm »
I drove GA 72 earlier today, from Elberton west to GA 98. As OSM shows, it now apparently follows Colbert-Comer Rd., rather than Sunset Ave. and River Rd. in Comer and Carlton, to the Madison/Elbert county line (at which point the name changes to Athens Highway). This new routing is also confirmed by the 2019-2020 state highway map.

There are corresponding changes needed to GA 22 and GA 98. GA 22 and GA 98 now both end at the same intersection with the realigned GA 72. GA 22 is extended north through Comer along part of former GA 98, and one block of former GA 72. GA 98's south end is truncated to the rerouted GA 72.

I have a photo of the new GA 22/GA 98 junction, though it's not too informative (shows only that the routes meet, but not where). No time right now to edit and post.

I would think that ColComRd on GA 72 would become RivRd.
