Title: MS: I-269 McIngvale Rd interchange dilemma
Post by: froggie on September 28, 2021, 04:48:07 pm
MDOT opened a new interchange on I-269 at McIngvale Rd (just east of I-55) at the end of July.

Here's the dilemma:  newspaper photos clearly show the interchange as "Exit 1".  But I'm already using that label for the I-55/69 interchange on I-269 because GMSV shows the ramps to I-55 from I-269 as Exit 1A/B.  Can't simply move the "1" waypoint without breaking the majority of lists that include 269.  I suppose I could make the new Exit 1 label "1C", but that doesn't feel right either.

Suggestions?

Honestly, going "1A" or "1C" is fine in my book.

I would go with 1C for McIngvale Rd as an interim until it can be determine how MDOT resolves the 1A-1B-1 numbering. They may come back and make adjustments after the contractor's release of maintenance with in-house sign crews.

After the I-55 and I-269 interchange first open, they had to change all of the control cities (like Nesbit) in house.

Hm. This seems a variation on the Two separate interchanges numbered 6... next available letter suffix (https://travelmapping.net/devel/manual/wayptlabels.php#nextsuffix) theme, complicated by how the first exit 1 got there first on Exits 4A & 4B in one interchange (https://travelmapping.net/devel/manual/wayptlabels.php#dropa) grounds.

I can understand not wanting to break .lists & full clinches; that'd likely be a bit rich for my blood too (1 is in use by 26 travelers). Reminds me of the actual Exit 0s on Interstates that got fudged to 0A (https://travelmapping.net/hb/showroute.php?r=tx.i010&lat=31.997508&lon=-106.582763&zoom=16) because of 0 being in use at the state line.
I think I-37 went thru some similar funny business with its exits 1 & 1A & pals -- and is now in a state of flux again.

1A doesn't sit quite right, what with 1A & technically being the I-55 interchange.

I suppose I could make the new Exit 1 label "1C", but that doesn't feel right either.
Agreed; doesn't feel right. May be the best of multiple imperfect options though.

Edit: Fixed HB link

It's not optimum, but I went with "1C" for now.
