In DC, just off the National Mall, US 1 and 50 intersect at Constitution Ave and 14th St. They both then head east along Constitution Ave before turning on 6th St a little before the Capitol. I would expect the waypoint to be right in the middle of the intersection. But, the point appears offset a bit and is about halfway between 14th and 15th streets.

I'll defer to this recent post from froggie when the subject was last brought up (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?topic=4552.msg25148#msg25148).

Right, so the triggering issue here is that left turns onto southbound 14th Street are prohibited. Thus, US 1 southbound cannot go this way.
Determining what it does instead is complicated by the fact that there simply are no signs, but the point's current location assumes the (permanent) detour involves turning onto 15th Street.
I likewise am inclined to defer to froggie's research on this though I am curious what "official sources" entails.

Ah, so that is what's going on there. Thanks for the explanation.

Then there's US 1 south in NYC, which similarly has a turn prohibition but still officially goes there, with all traffic directed to leave US 1 to get back to it (https://www.google.com/maps/@40.8601781,-73.888491,3a,31.3y,327.23h,87.36t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sCPiwL2u640xQJfjG3neaKQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192).

Oddly enough, OSM is indicating that US 1 SB follows the 9th St Expressway south to I-395. Where did they get that from? I have no idea.
