Title: AL: AL158 Extension
Post by: cockroachking on February 16, 2023, 06:21:56 pm
As of December 2022, AL158 has been extended west to AL217, according to this post (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=5555.msg2800916#msg2800916) on the AARoads forum:

Looks like a 1.5 mile section of the new US-98 opened to traffic a few days ago between Newburn Road and Lott Road as per this tweet from the ALDOT Southwest Region Twitter: https://twitter.com/ALDOT_SW_Region/status/1606074630241820673 . As for the rest of the 2-lane new US-98 it should open by early 2024: All remaining projects not yet completed have been let and are under construction.

AL217 has a shaping point not too far off from the current intersection that can be converted to an AL158 point.

I was waiting for confirmation of signage before I extended it.

Curiosity. Is US 98 going to move to this new route once completed?  Any idea what will old route would be signed if that change were to happen?  I could see US 98 being rerouted through downtown Mobile via US43 or I-165.

Can confirm in the field, AL 158 crosses over 217.

I just drove the entirety of AL 158, which now extends all the way west to a junction with US 98 0.7 mile east of the state line. I didn't take photos because it was rainy, but I did note some approximate points for the eventual log:
0.0 - split from US 98
2.3 - drops back to 2 lanes (westbound roadway appears years from completion)
4.1 - CR 63 Wilmer-Georgetown Rd (separation with ramp, similar to AL 217)
9.4 - Stone Rd (at-grade intersection)
10.4 - ramp to AL 217
10.7 - crossover of AL 217
11.9 - resumes 4-lane configuration
12.2 - CR 31 Newburn Rd (current western terminus in TM)
Hope this helps.
