Title: ON ON 402
Post by: Bickendan on January 29, 2025, 06:50:44 pm
What was the reason why ON 402 starts at exit 1 and not at the border on the Blue Water Bridge with I-69/94 again? Same thing for the QEW on the Peace Bridge, actually.

IIRC, it's because MTO only designates provincial routes on roads they maintain (I think I remember something on the AARF about the border posts not meeting 400-series standards too).  As such, the official end of ON 402 and the QEW are close enough to the final interchanges for 1PPI (and the same will be true for ON 401 as well once the Gordie Howe Bridge opens).  Technically ON 405 should end at *PorRd for the same reason, but that change was never made.

I know I need to deal with that.  Just keep forgetting to.  There's a separate thread (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?topic=4391.0) about that.

But I honestly think maybe the 'end' point should be @ the Niagara Parkway instead, as that historically had an EB off-ramp till it was removed to allow more area for trucks to que going into the US.  We can deal with it in that thread, as this is about ON-402.

Since the question has been answered about ON-402, and since this is going to be a no-build, marking as solved.
Also, here's a previous thread (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?topic=5088.0) about this same thing for ON-402.
