I am not planning to send a rant email to NCDOT, but I guess NC 36 will follow existing NC 42 for now.

There's a map (https://malmeroads.net/ncfutints/nc36map83023.jpg) showing NC36 using Ranch Road (and so, if it were NC42, it would have remained concurrent with former US70 and had just one intersection with current US70 as before, but just flipped where that concurrency was as former US70 moved - very odd!).

Right, I thought it might be temporary as construction was needed on Ranch Rd to put NC 36 on it, but I guess that is done or close to done.

Here's a couple photos of the new NC 36 related signage on the Clayton Bypass. NC 36 West trailblazers have also appeared along now signed as US 70 in Clayton:
I think, given one sign was enough to add I-42, we now have more than enough to do the related changes - the banners seem to have been removed from US70 and NC36 signs are around.

NC 42 split into 2 files and NC 36 created...
