Morocco Motorways / System names
« on: March 13, 2016, 12:10:20 pm »
It seems that the motorways have been renumbered

More info: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=131360854&postcount=957.

Btw, why is the system called "Morocco A Roads" instead of "Morocco Motorways"?

I'll get onto it when it's more than just 'seems'.

I need to look into how I'm naming systems. I'll probably go with the English name of the country and the native name (Latinised, of course) for the system. So this would be "Morocco Autoroutes" and you'd have "France Routes Nationale", "Czechia Dalice", "Germany Autobahns" etc.

I don't know what's your source is but I know that it's quite strange in Morocco. The mentioned numbering scheme is according to what is signed on the roads. I've quoted the source with pics showing the signs.

Ok. I think it's a good idea because the English terms "Motorway" and "Expressway" are not always suitable for the system standard nor the native name. On the other hand, I'm not sure that we will find THE perfect name for every system ;).

The Czech motorways are called "Dalnice" (with n) or "Dálnice" (with non-ASCII character which is currently not possible to be used: https://github.com/TravelMapping/DataProcessing/issues/13)

Btw, why do you call Czech Republic "Czechia"? I think it's not very common, is it? (the German synonym "Tschechei" is also very old-fashioned)

My source was mapping, Wegenwiki and the SSC thread.

which is, of course, why everyone was getting it wrong until this afternoon ;)

I assumed it was just the Chris Zwolle post full of weasel words about whether the Autoroute renumbering was official and declaring 'no official source' that I had read a couple of hours earlier, rather than new information.

But I'm still going to wait for something more official.

Because someone a few years ago demanded that I read the request of the Czech President saying "please use Czechia as a short English name". And it makes sense - we don't call it's neighbour the "Slovak Republic" (its official name) after all.

Not in English.

I think it makes no sense to use "official names" like Federal Republic of Germany, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Kingdom of Denmark, Republic of Poland et cetera

I think if it's not common, we should use the most common English name: Czech Repuclic!

Thanks for the latest modification (Applying of the Moroccan motorway renumbering and renaming of the systems)!

I think the system names should also be changed in the update list to avoid confusion.

The country name of 'Azerbaijan Magistrale' is Armenia ;).

I don't see why the 'Ring Road' supplement is required for belr system and 'General Roads' for andcg, dnkpr, estt, et cetera. What's different with alakt, finkt, fran or frht et cetera?
I think you should add the English translation for all systems or for no system.

I simply missed them when deciding against adding them having added them. Removed them last night, but don't have access to that PC to make the change until Wednesday.

If approved by parliament, the name will be lodged with the United Nations.

It's not yet official but I guess it will happen soon (well, no one knows what politicians will decide though...). I agree that we keep "Czechia" :)

Going back to Morocco Motorways, does anyone want to have a look and check this system?
