DOWNTIME COMING SOON: server location move 2018-08-27

The server that houses TM will soon move to a more secure location with better backup power and air conditioning.  The current plan is to do this on Monday, 8/27.  The server will need to be down for at least 30 minutes, possibly much longer if things don't go as smoothly as expected.  The reliability benefits of being in a genuine dedicated machine room will far outweigh the inconvenience of this hopefully brief interruption.

Question...have you been hosting this server at home or at the college?

It's at the college.  Even on a college-owned computer now, justified by the dependency of the METAL academic project on TM's DB.

A power outage on parts of the campus today might delay the move.  If things settle down, the IT staff might be able to assist with the move, but at the moment they have more urgent issues on their plates.  So far so good maintaining power in the building housing my office and the current server location.

The server move that was postponed by the power outage at the end of the summer and then not a priority during my fall semester is now in the works for one day next week.  I'm hoping to do an OS upgrade also, so there could be additional downtime for all TM services.

A plan is in the works to move the server that houses TM on Tuesday, December 18.  Expect downtime.

Additionally, I am planning to upgrade the server's operating system.  This will likely cause additional downtime and other unusual behavior as components are updated and system reboots occur.
