Please test new system page
« on: June 13, 2016, 12:00:52 am »
Latest in the series, please try out the updated systems page:

http://tmtest.teresco.org/user/system.php

You'll have to choose a user and system and optionally a region when you get there.

I know there's a lot of room for improvement in the drop-down menus.  There should be no major functionality changes aside from the introduction of those drop-downs in place of the free form text fields as was done in other pages.

I like the look and functionality except for the regions. There are so many now, and so many less-familiar ones, that scrolling down rapidly often results in not having enough information about whether to scroll down or up to get to the one you want.

IMO one of these would work better:
  • country drop-down, then another one for sub-state regions
  • country prefix (complete or ISO codes) with each sub-state entry in the drop-down
  • a drop-down that includes only regions where the system is present
  • a drop-down that includes only regions that user has travelled in

I agree the region list is hard to use.  It's definitely on my list but likely won't be fixed before this current window of opportunity to work on the web interface closes for me (it should have closed a few days ago).  The good news is that the refactoring should make it easier to make improvements and they'll be usable throughout the project.

Jim,

Are you able to put the regions in alphabetical order? This would make it a bit easier to find regions.

Thanks,

It's alphabetical by country code, which isn't helpful if, even after picking that they are grouped by country, you look for Switzerland or Spain under 'S', Germany under 'D', the UK under 'U', etc.

Thank you for informing me about the country codes.
