TX: US 79 Bus Taylor shown on the wrong route
« on: November 09, 2020, 03:02:52 pm »
I drove US 79 Business in Taylor TX over the weekend, and all signage indicates it follows the old route (2nd Street) through the west half of town. GMSV confirms what I saw. The highway browser shows US 79 Business starting at the junction of US 79 (the bypass) and TX 95 and heading north into town.

- US 79 SB at the west end of 79B: https://www.google.com/maps/@30.5664562,-97.4344215,3a,75y,18.87h,92.47t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sJrdLg-CAdE2_yxrruPyDJg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

- US 79B SB where it turns onto 2nd St instead of following TX 95 further south: https://www.google.com/maps/@30.5694052,-97.4095926,3a,75y,184.44h,98.13t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sPOXDe16aFqyp6NQ-qU340Q!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

On TX 95, the 2ndSt  point needs to be changes to US79Bus_S.

Oh boy. I've since learned better, but have a history of jumping the gun on Texas edits before they're signed in the field.
Some time before CHM went dormant, AASHTO approved an application from TXDOT to move US79BusTay onto TX95, and I updated the HB accordingly.
Meanwhile, while TXDOT had yet to sign that in the field (other than changing this to this), they went and deleted it.

Faced with the equally yucky options of reverting US79BusTay only to have to delete it soon after, or deleting US79BusTay only to have to wait God knows how long for signage to catch up...
Hm. The disappearance of that one US79Bus sign is at least a little bit of discouragement from reverting.

No-build. I'll defer action on this one for now, either until signage is updated with new info, or long enough has gone by with no change...
This is on my Texas Outlook Watchlist, so I won't forget about it.
