Hover functionality on touch devices

On some TM pages and in HDX, access to some functionality depends on the ability to hover over something on the screen.  For example, in Mapview, you can hover over a route or system in the Route Table and all segments are highlighted while you are hovering.  And in the Highway Browser, when viewing a route, you can hover over the "Total Drivers" and "Total Clinched" table rows to see which users have driven or clinched the route.

I'd like to find a way to provide access to the same functionality on touch devices, where the concept of "hover" doesn't exist.  I assume most of us use both traditional devices with a mouse cursor that you can use to hover, and mobile devices that you can't.  Have you seen good examples of how to replace hover functionality on mobile devices?  Google has massive amounts of information about this, but it's overwhelming and there doesn't seem to be much agreement on a general solution.  How would you like to see the functionality for the specific example from Mapview made available on no-hover devices?  An extra button or link or checkbox?

I'm not a programmer, but a tap-and-hold function could "feel" similar. Much like tap-and-hold over a web link will display options such as "Open in new tab" and "Copy link address," maybe a dialogue box could pop up by doing so - and instead of Open.. and Copy.. options, a list of the info you wish to display will pop up there, such as a list of names for 100% clinched routes. 

So, the hover functionality could be replaced with hyperlink functionality of tapping and holding over a field on the screen, except the options contained within go nowhere - no links, for display only - and you can tap outside of the dialogue box to close without losing your place on the map (zooming, scrolling, etc) or having to tap a highlighted route to exit the dialogue. Anyone think this is possible or good enough for now?
