The approximately 1.1-mile long extension will involve the construction of a four-lane roadway from the current termination of the beltway just west of Interstate 81 to Commerce Drive.

It should be done later this year.  District 4 indicated that trucks are using it in some form, but it is not currently open fully so I will not implement this in the HB yet.

(For PA 424)  PennDOT - District 4 News: Shapiro Administration Opens Route 424 (Chamber of Commerce Beltway) a Year Ahead of Schedule

I want to field check this to clarify signage before making the extension.  It will not be this weekend as I am visiting my parents in VA.

So there is an END sign on PA 424 WB just west of Commerce Dr so that should be enough for me to extend it there.  If signage changes things later, we can resurrect this topic.  There are no signs indicating that PA 424 turns onto Commerce Dr and follows it north to PA 924.

So I drove this on Friday to reclinch and I think the west end should actually be at Mt Pleasant Lane rather than at Commerce Drive.

Because, well, if the end were at Commerce the end sign should be before Commerce, and it's after. And there isn't a pavement change until after Mt Pleasant (which makes sense, since the Commerce-Mt Pleasant segment was also newly constructed as part of this project).

So signage here has not changed since November 18, 2023.  (https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10219681330704300&set=a.10219681382825603)

Well PA 48 and PA 290 are exceptions to this....

My 11 PM brain is saying, "yeah, you technically may be right, but this seems to be a distinction without a difference", and the END sign is still more or less placed where the EB left-turn lane before Commerce begins....

Honestly, I am reminded of my past MD 175 thread and think I should go no-build.  (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?topic=3412.msg16899#msg16899)

And off of this subject, did you see any PA 424 WB shields on the off-ramps from I-81?  I had not see any, but I have not been through here since February 10th.

On the southbound side, no. I wasn't on the northbound side so I can't say there. The overpass is still under construction though, so they're not ready for the permanent signs yet.

Heh, throwing my own logic back at me ;D

I don't see this as quite analogous because Commerce is an intersection, not an interchange, and is not itself a numbered route so we're not talking about the difference between a dumb little dangling end and and a tidy endpoint.

Anyway, the final answer to this question would logically come from the Type 10 map for Luzerne County, but it hasn't been updated to show the extension yet. When it is, that'll be definitive.

I just played with the Video Log and was able to get a red segment that seems to be west of Commerce Dr.

I will relook at the project documents in ECMS when I get time at work today.

So the plans make it clear that PA 424 ends at Mount Pleasant Ln so I will be making an extremely short extension of this route.  The attachment that I snipped from the plans on ECMS shows Mount Pleasant Ln as Private Driveway.

If anyone wants to discuss the other odd ends, please start a new thread.   ;D

You too?

On the southbound side, no. I wasn't on the northbound side so I can't say there. The overpass is still under construction though, so they're not ready for the permanent signs yet.

For the record, I was coming in from northbound 81, but having seen all the detour signs saying that the left turn from the NB offramp would be blocked, I went up to 924, came in from Commerce (which for the record only had directional signs pointing to 424 east but the LWS below that assembly does show segment 50 going west), did both directions of the new segment, and continued west through the industrial park past the "road closed to thru traffic" signs though no actual closures. I note that per current Google Maps aerial imagery, the widened roadway does indeed end at Mt. Pleasant Lane. Definitely no 424 signs west of the RR tracks.
