NY: US-9W point suggestion
« on: December 09, 2024, 05:14:40 am »
Would recommend a point a 'High Avenue' just north of the intersection with NY-59.

I see people needing this point for sure, due to the connection to the NB I-87/287 ramps there.

I'm pretty sure I've looked at this one in the past (or at least one wicked dahn similah bub) and made the call that it's 1PPI. An unusual one, to be sure.
Going no-build.

I beg to differ here.  This is 100% NOT a 1PPI when it comes to US-9W.

People needing to go/from 'SB I-87' via NY-59 can claim 'MouAve' (where the SB I-87 ramps intersect) to US-9W.  However, I don't consider NY-59 itself as part of the interchange.

Meanwhile, HighAve has no relation at all to NY-59 and would be a valid point any other time on US-9W, had it only been a partial interchange.

If you 'want' to consider this as a '1PPI', then 'MouAve' has to go too.  Can't have it both ways IMO.

WRT no relation to NY59,
If the point had been called I-87/59 from the get-go, would it have set off the same perceptual alarm bells?

Yes, since NY-59 is completely independent from the I-87 ramps.  I would personally say that Exit 11 is more acting like a split interchange, but using the same number.
